A US town has rejected a proposal for a solar farm following public concerns.
Members of the public in Woodland, North Carolina, expressed their fear and mistrust at the proposal to allow Strata Solar Company to build a solar farm off Highway 258.
During the Woodland Town Council meeting, one local man, Bobby Mann, said solar farms would suck up all the energy from the sun and businesses would not go to Woodland, the Roanoke-Chowan News Herald reported.

Jane Mann, a retired science teacher, said she was concerned the panels would prevent plants in the area from photosynthesizing, stopping them from growing.

Ms Mann said she had seen areas near solar panels where plants are brown and dead because they did not get enough sunlight.
She also questioned the high number of cancer deaths in the area, saying no one could tell her solar panels didn't cause cancer.
Only in 'merica.
How the FUCK does a 'science teacher' fail to realize that correlation != causation

Because you don't need to know a subject to teach it.
The real question is, why are people listening to her?

People with reasoning this moronic shouldn't be given a choice
yeah it would pervent plants from photosynthesizing if the plants are under the panels :v:
and yeah they'll probably give you skin cancer if you stand for long periods of time on top/really close to them but you'd get some pretty awful sun burns before that
but clearly none of this is what she meant lol
what an idiot
We really need an amendment that federally funds education. This is beyond sad.
Bonus points: The base level of funding that must be provided to education is 20 percent of the defense budget. Not a static value. Actually link them.

I hope her students didn't learn logic like this... Like, really hope they didn't. Hope she didn't teach Biology.
Note also, that she's retired lol.
She might have been a teacher but chances are she doesn't qualify as one anymore.

*retarded
Think about this:
This "teacher" was teaching the next generation of america.

I think it would be better if the defense budget would be 20% of the education budget, so every time they want to raise it they would have to raise educations budget by far more.

With how much we spend on our defense budget, I'm guessing 20% would already be way WAY overkill. At some point you are going to get diminishing returns.
This is why the us is become less and less respected. We are going back to 50's level of ignorance and fear mongering.
This is beyond stupid

It was a woman, so I think this is more appropriate.

Makes you wonder if anyone have had the idea that we should send rockets full of fuel into the sun so we can keep the sun going.

I don't know about the keeping the sun running part but intentionally crashing things into the sun does sound fun

I hate it when retarded people stands in the way of progress.
Well, if you have a large area covered completely by sollar cells = shadows 24/7, then you can kinda guess they won't get enough sunlight to grow.

Solar panel farms are not meant to grow grass though.
They're is obviously stupid but I've always kinda wondered - energy is conserved so are there unforeseen reactions to harvesting renewable energy?
Oh boy, my state is the greatest.
Everyone saying "how do you become a teacher if you can't teach?", well, my 3rd grade teacher couldn't spell the word grammar.
North Carolina!

Education meant something in the 1950s at least in the United States. Now it's garbage. Material isn't taught, it's turned into trivia that students are expected to memorize for tests and then will immediately/soon forget afterwards. Learning isn't something that's encouraged in an engaging way for students, so the vast majority of people end up hating school-- and rightfully so because it's so incredibly fucking boring. Bachelors degrees are the modern equivalent of high school diplomas, and a college education doesn't mean anything compared to what it used to...
How old is this woman anyway? Since she's retired, has she just gone senile, or was she always just a legitimate idiot? Either way, this is the last person we need to be listening to on this matter, that much is clear.
I feel like somehow Tony Abbott must be behind this
how the FUCK are you going to suck the energy from the sun, the most powerful astronomical object in our Solar System!?
I've heard someone say wind farms are going to cause more wind.
I'm fucking done....
You guys want to die, I won't stop you.
At least you died ignorant to the fact you could stop it.
Ignorance is bliss
