He has a monitor at the resolution 1366x768. He is convinced he should buy a 5970, and that my attempts to stop him from wasting his money is just me being jealous... Help me convince him that a 5770 or even a 5750 would be a much better idea. The rest of his computer is something like 4gb ram 500Gb hard drive and a Q8300.
Let him buy it. He will learn.

So you're a girl and he doesn't want to listen to you? Or is this a buddy? Tell him, "It's your money, buy whatever the fuck you want. I think you should buy this though: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150500&cm_re=5970-_-14-150-500-_-Product Comes with a fucking key and a gun that you can hold your graphics in!!!"
At 1366x768 he doesn't even need something as powerful as a 5750. My 9800 can play any game including Crysis at max graphics at that resolution easily and a 5750 is significantly better than that. It's his money however so if he won't take your advice, at least try to convince him to get a higher resolution monitor so he can enjoy the power of the graphics card more.

[editline]10:06PM[/editline] He says he's getting a new cpu too, so apparently all of your opinions are useless now...

He says that I am wrong and wants to continue buying the card, and that I'm jealous of how much he can spend... Help me convince him he would be better off with a cheaper card that won't be useless in every way possible. The rest of his computer is something along the lines of 4gb of ram, a 500gb HDD, and an Intel Q8300." Tell him about my 1300$ option that gives him a gun and key that unlocks the full potential of his computer that it blows up in a holy array of fireworks caused by his inferior power supply.
I was having him on and he believed me. So im not a fucking retard well.

I bet his PSU won't be able to handle it.
imo OP's friend should get a gts 450
almost as bad as rusty having a 5970 for use at 1400x1050
Your friend is indeed a fucktard. He should have gotten two 5970s.
Your friend is indeed a fucktard. He should have gotten two 5970s.
Also he should get 12 plasma tv's and hook em up together, then play something fast, bright, colourful, and shaky.
His money, and if he spends like that he will learn.
I used to have a single monitor at 1366x768. A GTX260 and a Q9550 could max out Crysis (note the resolution) with full AA/AF and have a decent 10-20fps, they could get Just Cause 2 on high with decent AA/AF at playable framerates, etc. He would be able to max everything out, but it will still look like shit, no matter how fine your antialiasing is, simply because the resolution is tiny (16:9 version of 1024x768). I prefer my dual Asus 23.6" 1920x1080 monitors :smug: [editline]10:31PM[/editline] basically yeah, he'll learn (or he'll go buy a new monitor with a higher res)

Of course a dude said he was joking, so I'm guessing this thread is basically a joke/troll thread now.
Ha I learned the lesson a wile ago when I upgraded from a 9800 to a 260 atleast I got a second screen.
Let him do it, it's not like that monitor will last forever.
tell him to buy 2
You sound like such an enormous nerd.
whats wrong with a 5970 on a low res screen? just makes up in game quality and frame rate? and processing power if hes into that calculations on gpu stuff
whats wrong with a 5970 on a low res screen? just makes up in game quality and frame rate? and processing power if hes into that calculations on gpu stuff
Bit of an overkill to be honest.
whats wrong with a 5970 on a low res screen? just makes up in game quality and frame rate?
...which even a lower end card can match the performance of?
and processing power if hes into that calculations on gpu stuff
GPU Computing and ATI don't mix well.
Buy the 5970 if you want to.
...which even a lower end card can match the performance of?
But if he's upset about getting a 5970, it would mean he wouldn't have to upgrade for quite some time.
