In a press conference on Friday, Putin confirmed conditions for a deal had been reached that would mean Russia continued to supply Ukraine with gas "at least for the winter" but said the EU and EC "could and should" help Ukraine meet its financial obligations to Russia in paying for the gas supplies. French President Francois Hollande had earlier described a gas deal as "within reach," after a meeting attended by himself, Putin, Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. EU-brokered talks with Ukraine and Russia have produced a draft accord whereby cash-strapped Kiev would pay $3.1 billion (2.4 bn euros) in unpaid bills to Moscow by the end of October, with a new contract to cover subsequent deliveries.
Source.
"We want to continue holding our trump card but we also like your money."
"We want to continue holding our trump card but we also like your money."
Your avatar looks like he's mimicking Putin :v:
Well, how's that economy going, Russia?
Well, how's that economy going, Russia?
You know that they can easily just not give a fuck and stop supplying the gas, and that won't even mean anything to them. What's the point of your post? You might as well know that Ukrainians haven't paid A SINGLE RUBLE for the gas yet.
Mwah-ha-ha-ha-har!
So basically The Kremlin wants to make use of the situation, and have the EU pay for Ukraine's gas.
So basically The Kremlin wants to make use of the situation, and have the EU pay for Ukraine's gas.
Considering the Ukrainian government has refused to pay and refuses to care about their people, what choice do they have other than hoping some other force sets in and helps them?
I'm sure Russia would never do such a thing...

Putin is a merciful God.
Jesus could you imagine how many would die if they cut off the gas for the winter
More like, "Oh and by the way, you owe us this much".
Uhhh yeah and that's the money I'm talking about?
You know that they can easily just not give a fuck and stop supplying the gas, and that won't even mean anything to them. What's the point of your post? You might as well know that Ukrainians haven't paid A SINGLE RUBLE for the gas yet.
The point of the post is that this is sorta to cover their asses after the massive drop in value of their currency. You know they're a little desperate for money when they said they'll stop supplying initially and then now they wouldn't mind continuing until a certain time. But then again, the russians aren't stupid, just because a civil war is hanging around, doesn't mean they'll stop trading.
I wonder why that happened. Like this guys totally aboslutely hate us and made a statement then they would rather starve and fuel houses by wood and coal instead of work with us, they also have a history of not paying and a huge debt. Either Putin suddenly wants to do charity or there is something going on. Maybe Russian government is planning that pro-Western government of Ukraine will soon be taken down due to the economy never getting fixed and Ukraine will turn pro-Russia again?
Like this guys totally aboslutely hate us
Maybe if you repeat that enough it will be true
Either Putin suddenly wants to do charity or there is something going on. Maybe Russian government is planning that pro-Western government of Ukraine will soon be taken down due to the economy never getting fixed and Ukraine will turn pro-Russia again?
Or maybe Putin got his ass whooped by sanctions and doesn't want millions of people to freeze anymore
Maybe if you repeat that enough it will be true
Ukrainian politicians stopped trading with Russia and wanted to build a 100$ million wall on the border. Come on, it's pointless to deny that Ukraine doesn't feel anything good to Russia. That's not a biased opinion, it's a fact. After all you are the one that comments on how putin is a jerk in every thread.
Or maybe Putin got his ass whooped by sanctions and doesn't want millions of people to freeze anymore
So, as I said, charity? Exporting gas to Ukraine for free is throwing away millions. And due to sanctions we sure need these millions elsewhere.

Not any more than you deserve, at least
So, as I said, charity? Exporting gas to Ukraine for free is throwing away millions.
So, as I said, charity? Exporting gas to Ukraine for free is throwing away millions. It's sort of a lose-lose situation, depending on if you prefer a heated winter and a debt to pay off throughout the years/decades, or a cold winter and a loss of a massive local market as well as several billions in profit.

I would rather not give Ukraine any gas simply because Ukraine doesn't pay. But if Ukraine didn't pay when it's government was pro-Russian what make our gov think it will pay now?
That sounds like a good explanation. But if Ukraine didn't pay when it's government was pro-Russian what make our gov think it will pay now?
Fixing relations between the two countries and having outside factors work together to stabilize it's economical condition would make for a good start in getting that market and money back.
I guess anyone reading your post now understand why I believe Ukrainians hate Russia and why I find it surprising Russia ignores it and goes on to provide gas.
No, I fail to see how his post confirms that Ukrainians hate Russians (they might hate the country, but there's hardly anything too wrong with that). Explain please.
It's not in Putin's best interests to look like a murderous mad man by having half of Ukraine freeze to death, and I imagine neither side wants relations to deteriorate more than they already have.
Or maybe Putin got his ass whooped by sanctions and doesn't want millions of people to freeze anymore
So many wrong in this post.
No, I fail to see how his post confirms that Ukrainians hate Russians (they might hate the country, but there's hardly anything too wrong with that). Explain please.
I only said that Ukrainians hate Russia. As a country. It's laserbeams that brought up hate towards Russians. There is nothing wrong with that, I am just saying Ukrainians are not eager to trade with Russia and repay the debt. I think croguy is right. If Putin let them freeze it would make a good statement to other countries of EEU and everyone else:"If you decide to oppose us then you are on your own".

It's not the people who pay for the gas (actually, they are, but indirectly), and even then - they pay for the gas delivered to their homes, don't they? It's the government that quite some time ago decided that non of those money should go for the actual source of the gas. And I don't think politicians are all that capable of truly "hating" or "liking" their colleagues. Current president tries his hardest to take a stance that is as close to "neutral" as it can get. You probably meant the latter, that their government doesn't like Russia, well then I fail to see how Laserbeams' posts can illustrate that. He's not a government higher-up as far as I'm aware. And it's pretty evident that there's no other option. No one can turn the valves, that would mean terrible consequences that aren't worth it in any perspective. Yeah it just might force the Ukrainian government to repay at least some parts of the debt, but taking into account how much their current powers give a shit about the people (hardly a lot more than our government does)... that is also kind of doubtful.
It's their choice though. If Putin let them freeze it would make a good statement to other countries of EEU and everyone else:"If you decide to oppose us then you are on your own".
A typical Russian post. Stereotypical almost. It still baffles me how you people can say shit like this and then wonder why people don't like you
