An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.
Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.
Wow, they actually listened.
Too late, the damage is already done.
PS4 is better
PC master race
Woops, didn't know OP updated the other thread.
Shouldn't have been in there in the first place. Will probably get this just for the exclusives it is showing off. Anyone who says "damage is done" obviously forgot how long the 360 was shit for.
Still hasn't won me over, Sony have my money, again.
Took them long enough, but maybe this will allow them to pull sales back up enough to survive to next gen and try again :v:
Like I said in the News Node, for Microsoft's Xbox division to be so determined on what they were aiming for (being the Steam of the console industry and trying to push a revolution in digital games distribution) and then suddenly backpedal at the speed of light on it all?
The Xbox One team and their corporate higher-ups will probably go insane while trying to save face.
A part of me wishes that they never fixed it. :v:
This is good news, however I'm going with ps4 this generation.
Though I'm not going to buy it till the crew/ kingdom hearts is closer to release. Since the other game I wanted (watch_dogs) will be on PC.
I was kinda hoping for PS4 to become dominant console.
Aww I wanted to see them fail harder than anyone ever failed, hopefully they still do poorly.
Shit, now the only reason to get a PS4 is because it's more powerful and $100 cheaper.
Wow, they actually listened.
Things like console announcements and E3 are always just to test out the audience. It's not that they listened, they always had this as a backup plan, and they're likely to milk the 'we listened' thing.
I was kinda hoping for PS4 to become dominant console.
As an Xbox fan, PS4 feels pretty dominant to me still.
This doesn't change jack shit. They could even drop the price down to $399 but I'll still buy a PS4 and support Sony.
Wow!
Think about this guys. We as a community of videogame players accomplished a great task. We created such a bitchstorm that a huge company actually changed their fucking stupid plans.
This is fucking awesome.
It's good to see gamers take a stand, and have it directly affect an outcome. May this be a lesson to consumers that we don't have to take shit all the time. I hope Microsoft feels shame.
I'm happy that they've done this, but I'm still not going to buy one. If they can remove a feature like that so far into development then surely they can put it back just as easily. I can imagine one of the facelift updates a few years down the line adding it back in for newer games.
Gonna stick with my PC.
Does this mean the ten family share plan is pretty much dead?
I hope not.

It's gone.
"There’s a few things we won’t be able to deliver as a result of this change," Marc Whitten, v.p. of Xbox Live told Kotaku, "One of the things we were very exicted about was 'wherever we go my games are always with me.' Now, of course, your physical games won’t show up that way. The content you bought digitally will. But you’ll have to bring your discs with you to have your games with you. Similarly, the sharing library [is something] we won’t be able to deliver at launch."
That means that two features are being cut, at least for now, from Microsoft's Xbox One plans. Microsoft's concept of having your full game library travel with you is gone.
Microsoft's offer to let you share Xbox One games with up to nine other "family" members is gone, too.
i'm getting an xbox one because it has games i'm more interested in
Well that sucks. That was one of their best features.
Now it really is just a better 360 (with forced kinect...)
My friends will be glad at least...
Too late Microsoft, everyone's Pro-Sony PS4 now.
It's gone.
http://kotaku.com/surprise-xbox-one-drm-reversal-requires-day-one-patch-514419715
Worth it.
Lol hey Microshit, you can change whatever you want. Hell, you could even lower the price to $399 like the PS4 but the fact that you pulled that bullshit to begin with, my money goes to Sony this generation.
Good on Microsoft I suppose.
I might actually get (eventually) an Xbox One now.
Still really not keen on that mandatory Kinect thing though.
They should stop being wieners and just keep the Family Borrowing. If you have a decent connection, and don't mind checking in, then why wouldn't it work?
I know they might bring it later but nothing they ever officially confirm seems to be either; weird, vague, or completely arbitrary.
I want to say thank you to the gamers who decided to make it happen and get Microsoft to change their marketing strategy. Remember that you as the consumer can have an affect on the company that you buy from.
Also a shutout to BenJammin' for writing a wonderful post. I will make sure that I get something for him when the Summer Sales come around.
Congrats to Microsoft for un-fucking themselves.
I was kinda hoping for PS4 to become dominant console.
Why? A console should succeed by its merits. This is something you wanted, right?
It doesn't change much. Kinect is still mandatory, the console is still overfocused on sports and TV, the partnership with EA isn't going away, and so far the PS4 is still showing more potential.
