Party members backed nuclear power as long as it is not subsidised, after several hours of tense debate at the Glasgow autumn conference Ed Davey, the Liberal Democrat energy secretary, urged his colleagues to support nuclear power, saying it would be "reckless" to reject such a major low-carbon source of energy that is needed to tackle climate change.
All three major parties now support nuclear. Party leadership already supported it but it's now a formal policy
fuck yeah, though this isn't going to change anything short term
Yes, the more support for Nuclear power the better.
Yes Yes Yes Thorium reactor development funding, please
Fukushima really put the whole thing in a bind. When Germany used it as an excuse to suddenly turn off all of their stations I think they missed the point that they didn't actually build their on fault lines like Japan had.
wow great good going now the earth is ruined, enjoy your completely irradiated earth future of all life on earth:
I hope the government goes for Thorium over Uranium. Uranium as it stands is a PR nightmare with Fukishima and Chernobyl under it's belt.

Uranium as it stands is a PR nightmare with Fukishima and Chernobyl under it's belt.
but but but.... uranium would still be needed in considerable quantities and qualities for any thorium reactor as thorium itself isn't purely fissionable. the problems with uranium is just that people have disposed of it in a very shortsighted manner for decades and now we have a serious nuclear waste problem that could be solved with the proper responses, but the goverments of the world aren't going to because thats expensive still we should explore the benefits of thorium because of the higher thermal efficiencies
basically if private industry wants to build a nuclear reactor, GREAT but the goverment isn't going to fund it anytime soon
Research funding is something entirely different than subsidizing actual enterprise.
Why does everyone think that they'll keep their word on ANYTHING?
Why does everyone think that they'll keep their word on ANYTHING?
They've already approved the first new nuclear plant
