I have tried everything, opened ports, downloaded crap from valve, did multiple tutorials, I still can't manage to host my OWN server for Garry's Mod 10. Somebody, please help me. I have been wanting to do this for a long time, but I can not manage to do it.
Your name says it all buddy.
Seriously guys, I know people in the same boat as me with this problem. Do it for the good of all the G mod players out there who are poor. :)
If your poor, you shouldn't be on the internet, instead, your job or where ever you work.
Also, don't tell me to just go to the "create multiplayer" option at the main menu. It doesn't work. :(
Edit:
I'm not actually poor, just a minor without a credit card. (14)
You can get a job as a 14 year old..

Ok, I don't want to waste money buying a server for $70 a month when I can just host my own on my other computer.
Wrong, most providers are 1-2 USD per slot.
Whatever OK, I don't have a credit card, which is the only method of payment there, and my dad doesn't want to pay Edit: $30 for a 6 slot server. www.artofwarcenteral.com
If you can help me, do it. I'm not here to have a personal discussion with you.
Then no server for you.
I know it IS possible. Will somebody at least investigate into it. I am.
Edit:
I got it to show up on the find server menu! Victory, only problem it doesn't respond, I am working on a solution to this problem. This is a major step up from the create multiplayer option on the G Mod menu.
What's so bad about a multiplayer server? You can play with 2 or 3 friends. It's not like everyone will like a random un moddified server just like that.
Good luck though, hope you can make it work. I went through the same thing.

Yeah, if he only wants people playing GMod on his network to be able to join.
Make sure you are up to date, ports are open, firewalls are off, sv_lan 0, and whatever else I'm missing.
heartbeat :P

why is this relevant?

Ok you want to host a game ok
simple you need to get a host, its easier unless you have a server class computer (not your parents desktop or Frankenstein computer) and a good internet connection (T-1 or better)
Hosting also may require upgrading your broadband to a business version since alot of home connection companies put bandwidth throttles on and like to block ports at the DSLAM hub.
Also if your using a shared wifi like i do at my apartment (we have a WAN WIFI here) you wont be able to host from it either due to the fact they probably blocked the ports. Lucky I can remote manage my systems which are on an OC-48 backbone in Louisiana and i am in Nevada.
Then theres the issues of forwarding ports in your router/modem or whatever and NO YOU CANNOT USE WIRELESS unless you like high latency
To put it straightly unless you have some cash to invest into this you do better asking your parents to pay for the host OR get a greendot card and put money on it..
In case you wonder what systems:
Dell poweredge 2950-3 - Garry's Mod (3 instances sandbox, spacebuld, darkrp)
Dell poweredge 2950-3 - Elfnet gaming wow realm redstar pvp
Dell poweredge 2950-3 - Elfnet gaming wow realm greenstar rp
Dell poweredge 2950-3 - HL2DM, TF2
Dell poweredge 2600 - Elfnet gaming wow login sql server, http server, mail server
