Despite receiving just 11,390 first preferences or 0.52 per cent of the vote, Mr Muir could be elected because of preference deals in place between the minor parties. Mr Muir is a resident of Denison, about 200 kilometres east of Melbourne, but further information about him has been hard to come by. The ABC has spoken to a number of local councillors and car enthusiasts in the area, but none of them know of Mr Muir. At this point the final count has not been completed, but our Victorian Senate candidate, Ricky Muir is in the running to win the final Victorian seat. Mr Muir's Facebook page shows the father of five has a keen interest in four-wheel driving. He is a member of groups such as Aussie 4WD Video, Gippsland Dragway, LandCruiser Owners and Gippsland Permaculture. The ABC has also seen comments made by Mr Muir on his Facebook timeline over the past few years that have today been taken down: "Media is reporting that the person who orfered (sic) the 911 terror attacks is dead... what a load of shit, George Bush is still alive!" Mr Muir had also posted a number of videos on YouTube but they have been made private since the election. In one of them, he is seen mucking around with friends and family as they try to fling kangaroo faeces at each other.
http://au.news.yahoo.com/latest/a/-/latest/18847833/ricky-muir-victorian-senate-candidate-from-australian-motoring-enthusiast-party-goes-to-ground/
Would-be senator Ricky Muir has shrugged off the emergence of a home video showing him participating in a kangaroo faeces fight, saying it was ''people play''. ''My past does not represent how I am now and it has nothing to do with the party,'' Mr Muir, from the Australian Motoring Enthusiast Party, told Seven News. Mr Muir's home video, which he had posted on his personal YouTube account, depicts the likely senator and his brother running around a campsite hurling kangaroo faeces and laughing hysterically. We know they are kangaroo faeces because the person holding the video camera picks up a brown pellet, examines it, and says: ''This is kangaroo poo. Yum yum.'' Mr Muir, who will likely become a federal senator next July despite winning a minuscule percentage of votes, looked sheepish when asked about the faeces fight. "Before all this come around I was just an ordinary Australian," Mr Muir told Seven News. "If you've ever spent much time in the bush, you go out there and you discover there is poo everywhere." In another scene in the home video, Mr Muir perches on the roof of a four-wheel drive and spits in the direction of the camera. At yet another point, the likely senator pulls down a bearded man's pants. Later in the video, he strikes the man with jousting sticks. "Well, people play," Mr Muir explained to Seven News. "My brother and myself were having a bit of a wrestle that day and you just end up on the ground." Mr Muir, whose party's core values include "mateship", lower taxation and "taking pride in our vehicles", is among a curious assortment of likely senators who have benefited from tightly swapped preferences between minor parties.
http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/federal-election-2013/it-was-people-play-wouldbe-senator-ricky-muir-on-the-kangaroo-poo-fight-20130909-2tg2g.html Clips of said home video in this link. Preferential voting, this is what you get.
I'd rather Preferential voting and getting one or two idiots in the Senate than having a non-preferential system and no third party candidates
so the summary of this story is that this guy had a good time doing silly but harmless things one time in his past and he is being put on trial for it
Who cares if he threw crap around? He could still be good it's not like he-
"Media is reporting that the person who orfered (sic) the 911 terror attacks is dead... what a load of shit, George Bush is still alive!"
Nevermind.
so the summary of this story is that this guy had a good time doing silly but harmless things one time in his past and he is being put on trial for it
I don't think he's being put on trial for it, but it goes to highlight the absurdity of a candidate who got less than 1% of the primary vote and only joined a newly formed party not long ago from being completely unknown even locally. And it was on his own youtube channel and facebook, it was the only information they could find on him, not the smartest thing when you're running for office.
This was the guy that got preferences over Julian Assange.
Preferential voting, this is what you get.
Except everyone just puts "1" above the line. Unless you want to spend time numbering candidates from 1 to 97.
Except everyone just puts "1" above the line. Unless you want to spend time numbering candidates from 1 to 97.
I filled out below the line, it's easy although my state only had 62 boxes didn't NSW or Vic have 112?
We know they are kangaroo faeces because the person holding the video camera picks up a brown pellet, examines it, and says: ''This is kangaroo poo. Yum yum.'
Oh, well I guess I'll just take his word for it. He clearly knows what he's talking about.
