Fidel Castro, 84, announced his resignation from leadership of the Cuba Communist Party today in an article published on Cubadebate.cu. Along with the changing face of the Communist Party comes the easing of Cuba's property laws. The BBC reports that for the first time since the 1959 Communist Revolution, Cubans will now be allowed to buy and sell private property. For more than 50 years, Cubans' have been restricted to passing their homes on to their children, or engaging in a corrupt system of swapping. In a speech Monday, President Raul Castro said "the party leadership was in need of renewal and should subject itself to severe self-criticism." President Castro also said that top political positions will be limited to two five-year terms.
http://www.businessinsider.com/castro-resigns-cuba-2011-4
yay! too bad communism continues in cuba and not the good kind of working communism. the bad kind of totalrism
So is there gonna be any change in Cuba now that he resigned? Or is it still gonna be a shithole of a country.
That guy was cool. :smith: Holy shit it's Liam Neeson. :psyboom:
Seems reasonable. He is an old man and probably needs some rest after his political dominance in Cuba for decades.
So what happens now...
Hopefully this will be the beginning of a new era in Cuba. Maybe something will happen with his brother that gets rid of communism and everybody can live in perfect democratic harmony.
So he's going for a democratic communism? Sounds awesome!
yay! too bad communism continues in cuba and not the good kind of working communism. the bad kind of totalrism
Too bad there has never been the good kind of communism.
Historical day.
working communism
lmao
Too bad there has never been the good kind of communism.
Not yet, but maybe someday. :gbsmith:
Working communism? That will never happen as long as there is greed in the world.
Isn't there an 'heir' or isn't Castro's son taking the role?
Isn't there an 'heir' or isn't Castro's son taking the role?
Raul Castro, his brother, is leader of the country.
Castro has been out of power for a while. And quit flaming on him guys, Cuba is doing pretty good compared to its other Latin American counterparts. And the reason why Fidel was so paranoid was because there were 625 CIA assassination attempts on him. You know you are boss when you survived that many hits. Criticize the man all you want, he carried Cuba's ass and made sure no other US-backed dictator takes over and destroy their economy. Call him what you want, but he got shit done, that's why Cuba has one of the highest literacy rates in the world.
He spent the billion dollar bill he got from homer

The literacy rate list that UNESCO provides assumes a value of 99% for countries that don't report a literacy rate.

Cuba isn't doing too badly personnel-wise, but there are not insignificant shortages, e.g. of medical supplies.
shortages of supplies can be contributed to the US. So thank them
shortages of supplies can be contributed to the US. So thank them
Caught me before the edit :c I'm rather slow these days at remembering things
Working communism? That will never happen as long as there is greed in the world.
The same could be said with any political theory.

Sounds like a change for the better I guess.
So he's going for a democratic communism? Sounds awesome!
Sounds impossible.
So he's going for a democratic communism? Sounds awesome!
Isn't that just Socialism?
Isn't that just Socialism?
Socialism has some private ownership and a market based economy, where as Communism has no private ownership and complete government control of the entire economy.
Sounds like a change for the better I guess.
Nothing really changed. At all
Sounds impossible.
You don't even know what Communism is. [editline]19th April 2011[/editline]
Pretty sure that number is completely made up.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2006/aug/03/cuba.duncancampbell2 Try researching things before you talk out of your ass.
Communism has no private ownership and complete government control of the entire economy.
That's just false.
Socialism has some private ownership and a market based economy, where as Communism has no private ownership and complete government control of the entire economy.
I'm honestly not suprised that you know jack-shit about communism, Boba. Jesus fucking christ, there is no totalitarian government in Communism.
Democratic Communism is impossible because Communism has no State.
