What? Max was never framed for killing his family.
What? Max was never framed for killing his family.
He only got framed for killing the cop in the subway. From then on, it was just pure unlucky shit for him.
Haven't played it yet, but I hear there's a level that rivals the blood splattered apartments from Max Payne 2. Sounded gory to me.
Haven't played it yet, but I hear there's a level that rivals the blood splattered apartments from Max Payne 2. Sounded gory to me.
The game is really violent and mature. It's fantastic. One of the best games I've played in years.
It's a great game. I just wish Max had something to live for. In the first 2 he was depressed but he clung to life and fought bitterly to keep it. For the first third of 3 all he does is whine about how shit and empty his life is and how much he wants to die. It's not interesting. It does get better once he gets over himself though.
Really good game, I did enjoy it. Not so hot on the multilplayer though
I've not played the first two so I can't really compare it to them, but I just finished this the other day and it was pretty fun. The only thing that bugged me was randomly losing your primary weapon between some cutscenes.
Got this game in the sales (didn't find any megathreads, sorry for bumping), 30 GB though o_O I liked the first game a lot, but the second game was mediocre at best. It didn't capture me at the start and I just stopped playing after a while. Can't wait for this one though Edit: I like how everyone yells at me for bumping it, ironically bumping it even more (hence the edit to prevent bumping it). Also I found this thread with gold magic.
The game is really violent and mature.
it's too mature and serious. with the exception of like maybe two TVs throughout the entire game, theres not a single amusing moment. remedy has talked about why they had so many funny moments in 1 and 2, it was because a game can't be serious all the time. then it will just be monotone and forgettable. and that is exactly what max payne 3 is. not only in the sense of the story. but also when it comes down the gameplay. apart from a 15 minutes walk through the slum, all you do is shoot people. and if you try to explore the areas just a tiny bit, your AI partner will spout something like "we dont have all day, max", just pushing you to the room of enemies for you to shoot. the pace is just too darn fast. the game doesnt give you time for anything else than shooting people, so by the time youve completed the game your left feeling empty because shooting people isnt very memorably, even when the combat is as well-polished and satisfying as it is in max payne 3. 1 and 2 had mona's fun-house, the police station, the nightmare sequences, and in general a more slow pace that had you loot drawers and cabinets for ammo and painkillers. all that stuff broke up the gunplay and added variety. the lack of just that is max payne 3's biggest weakness, along with how the game literally got none of the wit or charm 1 and 2 had. [editline]2nd January 2013[/editline] I really wouldnt recommend it unless you can get it for, like, piss-cheap.
I thought it was a really enjoyable run and gun. The story was super depressing because Max just can't catch a break. I thought he whined a lot though. I'd recommend it if you can find it for cheap (I got it for $15 on the winter sale today).
The game is really violent and mature. It's fantastic. One of the best games I've played in years.
It is good, but it is not finished/polished. That is the fault of oh-SO-many games these days. Pursuing a playstyle that felt the most badass/awesome/fun to you is made really hard and frustrating, much like Hitman Absolution. Not to mention you have to go through a lot of trouble to unlock unlimited Bullet time and other fancy shit for the single-player replayability, but I never bothered. :(
Jesus Christ, this thread is 7 months old now! How the shit did you find it?

literally half the game is cutscenes where hes sitting in his chair shoving whiskey and painkillers down his throat while being depressed as fuck and complaining about everything fun game nonetheless

I wish they'd patch it; a couple of the glitches are really frustrating. They also need to add a button that lets you kill yourself if you enter last stand and can't win.

It's just frustrating.

To be honest, I would have preferred if Rockstar picked a different old IP from Take2's stash to revive, like Oni, instead of Max Payne. The Max Payne feel is kinda easy to screw up. Besides, reviving a cult-classic makes it seem like you've built a new IP, without the effort of actually thinking of and building a new IP.

Pasos says over the radio "What's going on up there Max!?" to which Max responds over the gunfire "Exactly what it sounds like." Plus, even if it wasn't up to par with the games that came before it, the writing and narration was still incredibly good compared to a lot of other games.
Worst Max Payne ever That said, the action is top notch, the story just falls a little short
So, I take it that Max Payne 3 is suffering from Human Revolution syndrome? Everyone was talking about how awesome it was around release and months following, and now everyone is spontaneously saying it sucks/inferior.
It's not a bad game they just failed to make a compelling story The people you're trying to save are all rich fuckwits an I didn't have an ounce of sympathy for any of them there is only one bro in the game
So, I take it that Max Payne 3 is suffering from Human Revolution syndrome? Everyone was talking about how awesome it was around release and months following, and now everyone is spontaneously saying it sucks/inferior.
Wait what, human revolution syndrome ? People still say that it's a really good game, hell look at the sales thread. So many people recommended to buy it. Really the only people who don't like it are deus ex 1 hardcore fans.

Everyone was talking about how awesome it was around release and months following, and now everyone is spontaneously saying it sucks/inferior.
Either you browse /v/ a lot (Or took that one dumb video from that Errant Signal twit and assumed everyone suddenly holds his opinion) or I'm missing something here, because I'm pretty sure most people still really like Human Revolution. If anything, I've been hearing even more praise for it as time has gone on. I can still respect MP3 for what it is, but its story isn't even terrible, it's just bland and humorless, which ends up detracting from the great (and ridiculous) gameplay. I think people just didn't realize this on their initial playthrough and focused more on the technological aspect and core game design. Opinions change as hype dies down, it's really no different than any other game with the slightest modicum of pre-release hype.
