would be great if steam started supporting AUD (like they said they would) to help alleviate this

There were plans to introduce native AUD support. However, those got delayed along with the NZD, but the NZD wound up having support earlier this year.
wait what NZD got support before AUD? wtf
how'd it fair? is it straight up run through a currency converter or properly priced?
depends on publisher. on average we still pay more than the US, but less than we did before the change in currency.
No doubt gonna lead to an increase in piracy, which if I recall correctly is already relatively high in Australia.
So I can just vpn off another site right?

On steam, no
You'll need an off-shore bank account to change region from Australia
Also, remember, at current rates, you'aud prices from usd is 40% more, it's pretty rediculous

Hey hold on a second, nothing has been done yet, for all we know this might not go through, and even if it does, it still has to go through some people and they might not want it, and even if they do, its still a while before then.

It's a part of the budget
Better let go of that belt

Still has a while till it gets implemented.
Also....this isn't going to add much.
Okay so 80 bucks includes GST on EBGames or any store that is Australian and includes GST.
The 10% isn't going to be put on top of the 80 dollars so it's 88....In fact the prices will be the same, this is just enforcing it for companies who try to avoid it, we will be paying the same amount as we already do.

Evolve: 80USD
To Aud: $80+ 40% = $112
Add GST $123
I did the math both ways, before and after conversion
Suprising ended up the same, somehow

Can't wait for anyone at valve to give a shit and make AUD a seperate currency
can't you just buy steam keys from third party stores? or are they region locked?
Rip steamlocks.tk
Depends on the game
and $112 usd is like what, $150 aud?
we'd be paying 3x our dollar than the us pays their dollar, its ridiculous
bad reading
How long until games become a luxury in Australia?
So why is there a tax on intangible goods in the first place?
I finally start earning some dough enough for me to buy games every so often but now this.
God why do they hate us
So why is there a tax on intangible goods in the first place?
I've always viewed taxes as the siphoning of funds with any and all transactions. A better thing to complain about is the arbitrary price hike on digital goods by location.
Taxes are a requirement, I support taxes. They're vital for a country to just work.
But there's a fucking limit. This is just taking the piss for no reason other than Greed
I feel sorry for you Aussie gamers. You get shit internet at shit prices, (Though we have it worse in some places COUGH COUGH Time Warner Cable in Cali giving 10down5up at $300 a month) and your games cost almost twice is much (Well, they will now)

there's about a 20% increase in price with all products. $10 becomes $12 NZD, $20 becomes $24, $60 becomes $80 and so on.
You actually end up paying slightly less because one USD is about 1.36 NZD
