• Obama health summit heals few divides
US President Barack Obama's high-stakes health summit failed to break an impasse over his historic reform drive, prompting him to warn he would press on with or without Republican help. Civility largely prevailed at the grueling day-long meeting, after Obama warned against "political theater", but there was no breakthrough on sharp ideological disputes threatening to suffocate his ambitious presidency. The more than six hours of back-and-forth exchanges between top Republicans and Democrats -- compered by the sitting US president -- were unique in political history, and came after a poisoned year-long debate over health care. The president hinted at the talks at Blair House opposite the White House that he would seek to drive the massive reform bid through Congress even without Republican votes, which his foes flatly stated would not be forthcoming.
Full article in the link. Sigh.
I liked it when Obama and McCain were arguing, and Obama suddenly said, "Let me just make this point, John, because we’re not campaigning anymore. The election is over." Everyone was like, "What"

Everyone was like, "What"
Well, McCain was acting like a child getting in a petty argument, as were all the republicans. They can't show any bipartisanship with an idea like this. Granted, I don't like all the shit that's getting tacked onto the healthcare bill idea, and that's my reason for not wanting it, but the idea is still perfectly reasonable, which is why it's not very rational for them to so stalwartly refuse to have it.
Word on the street is that if the Republicans continue to be all "imonna oppose all your ideas cuz your the opposition party!!!" the Democrats are going to push healthcare reform through using budget reconciliation, a mechanic that (for some reason) allows them to pass a bill with a simple 51-seat majority instead of needing a 60-seat supermajority which they no longer have.

let's blame obama for the republicans being petulant children who refuse to compromise in even the slightest way
I comment on one rude comment Obama made, and I get pig-piled by three people.
I comment on one rude comment Obama made, and I get pig-piled by three people.
so many things with this statement that are both wrong and funny
I comment on one rude comment Obama made, and I get pig-piled by three people.
You bring it on yourself.
It's a metaphor.
Yeah, but why pigs? Are they the tackling sort? Even then, how is two comments "pig-piling"? Is melodrama just something that comes with being republican? I mean, what was it, aren't we in some sort of communist police state right now?

Actually, 51 votes makes a lot of sense. You shouldn't need a supermajority to get things passed.
let's blame obama for the republicans being petulant children who refuse to compromise in even the slightest way
Hey Democrats would do the same in their position.
Hey Democrats would do the same in their position.
But only because the shit the Republicans try to pass are fucking absurd 90% of the time.
Hey Democrats would do the same in their position.
They would blanketly deem everything the Republicans come up with as "communist" even when it was their idea to begin with, then when all their fears are addressed make up new, nonsensical fears so that the Republicans can never adequately justify anything? Then, when the Republicans bypass them because they're being impossible, they would say the Republicans are breaking their promises of bipartisanship and claim that the country is turning into a communistic facistic police state run by the president? Really? [editline]09:54PM[/editline]
But only because the shit the Republicans try to pass are fucking absurd 90% of the time.
Not really. I mean, they come up with a lot of shit and they block of a lot of shit, but they aren't without good ideas. It's just that those good ideas are being raped by the retarded fucknuggets that make up 80% of the party.
I comment on one rude comment Obama made, and I get pig-piled by three people.
How is it rude at all? McCain was being childish and not letting him get his sentence out, so Obama told him to shut up. It's perfectly fair.
It was never intended to produce anything of value. It was meant to put Republicans in front of the camera to let them have their say. Now that they have, the administration can validly say "We gave them every opportunity to work with us, and they refused to offer anything" while the Democrats in Congress get this thing passed through reconciliation. To anybody watching it should be obvious that they bring no real solution to our healthcare problems. Malpractice reform? Wow, it saves a couple billion a year while screwing over the victims. Medical savings accounts? Not very useful for people not in the top income brackets. Everything else I heard, especially from that jackass Baehner, was just standard Fox News talking points (complete with their favorite prop bill) that have been refuted again and again for anyone who actually pays attention. They have no intention of doing anything about the problem, deny there even is a problem, and will actively continue to do everything they can to stop anyone else from fixing the problem. They've been given their chance, so there shouldn't be anybody left who still thinks the GOP has any interest in anything but staunch obstructionism. [editline]05:35PM[/editline]
Hey Democrats would do the same in their position.
No, they don't, the Republicans routinely get their way when they don't quite have a supermajority. Using the filibuster to block EVERYTHING is a distinctly Republican tactic.
I comment on one rude comment Obama made, and I get pig-piled by three people.
Make that 4, you're ignorant as all hell.
It's not that for the most part, its being opposed because it's the opposing party, it's because many people just don't like it for good reasons. (I am against it as well since my generation is the one that is going to be negatively affected by it) Plus, even if it does pass, it would only be available in few states because so far over 30 states have decided that if it does pass, they will refuse to use it. (There is something that gives them the power to do that, but I can't recall exactly what.)
Why are you against it?
