Up to 5,000 of the evacuees will be taken hundreds of kilometres away to a refuge in Cold Lake, Alta., staffed by the Canadian Forces and the Red Cross. After the wildfires crossed fail-safe lines Saturday, coming within eight kilometres of the community of La Ronge, the provincial government and the Lac La Ronge Indian Band began evacuating out 7,900 residents remaining in the area.
Also of note from The Government of Saskatchewan Ministry of the Environment:
As of Saturday, July 4, there are 114 active fires in the province; 58 are greater than 100 hectares. There have been 569 wildfires so far this season compared to 193 in 2014.
Saskatoon, Prince Albert, and Winnipeg have all been experiencing smoky air that can be a health risk for certain people. The air where I am is really smoky and being outside sucks, but luckily I'm not near any uncontained fires and an evacuation isn't on the table. Here's a PDF map showing the locations of all 565 fires as of the start of July 4 If anyone from La Ronge (or anyone affected by any wildfire evacuation) is on FP, let us know that you're ok!
God damnit Saskatchewan, is that why we've been getting so much rain lately?! (for the uninformed, smoke in the air makes it easier for water to form clouds as there's something for water to "bind" to) To be honest though, It's been getting pretty crazy here in Winnipeg in terms of smokey air, and it doesn't help that I have asthma to begin with. I can't go outside for an hour or so without coughing and wheezing. D: Those people have it much worse though so I hope they make it out okay :)
Yeah it's been all over the news that Winnipeg has been getting smoke pretty bad. I think it has been a lot worse than Saskatoon or Prince Albert overall, actually. My sinus's and eyes are burning from all this smoke in Regina. [img_thumb]https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xtp1/t31.0-8/11061323_981073315256669_1169465094830821606_o.jpg[/img_thumb]

I guess the further you get from the fire the more time the smoke has had to settle.

Unless there is an impurity (like a speck of dust or whatnot) for the atmospheric water vapour to gather around, raindrops cannot form. It's also how cloud seeding works. Also, hopefully no-one will be too badly hurt by these dreadful wildfires.
We haven't seen the sun for about a week now in northern North Dakota. Just smoke and haze that hangs in the distance.
I want to see the sun again! The summer is too short for this shit.
Northern Saskatchewan??? Ain't that place barren and empty and eternally cold and shit?
The evacuation count is at 13,000 now, the Red Cross is calling it the largest evacuation in the province's history.
