Graphically, looks pretty good. Let's hope they've fixed gameplay and writing.
From the gameplay videos available it looks promising. Also ME3 was good except the ending they fucked up.
Not sure what you're talking about in terms of the combat. I actually thought ME3 had the strongest combat in the series. Unfortunately, it came at the cost of the story. The characters that were already around were still written alright I think, but the new stuff like Kai Leng were fucking garbage. If they had pulled off the ending, much of this could have been forgiven.
I don't think I'd even say I was cautiously optimistic at this point. We haven't seen much on the gameplay side, and I'm not sure I trust Bioware's writers after their last three massive blunders. They may be giving in to feedback after DA2; having made several races playable, but if the writing is shit then I'm going to struggle to bring myself to buy it. They won't be getting an instant buy from me either, I'm going to be waiting for some legitimate feedback before I even consider handing over my money. The camera doesn't really help; it makes it look like a third-person action game and less of an RPG.
Frankly I have absolutely zero faith in Bioware. After Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 3 and The Old Republic all had some of the absolute worst writing and absolutely most simplified gameplay in recent memory, I would be surprised if they could even write a picture book at this point, let alone a game. As far as i'm concerned, Mass Effect 3 was the final nail in the coffin; bioware is dead.
Mass Effect 2 had kinda shit writing too, compared to Mass Effect 1. Characters were good at first glance, but then when you get into the loyalty missions and deeper motivations, you kinda realize two-thirds of them are just daddy-issues, and the main story doesn't make a lick of sense and really just feels like filler in between the epic space opera of Mass Effect 1 and what we hoped would be the awesome wrap-up of Mass Effect 3. Luckily, Mass Effect 1 is a perfectly good stand-alone story, with it's own little Saren and Sovereign arch closed in a good, satisfying end.

All show and no substance. It might as well not even exist for all it contributed to the overall ME story. Utter fucking rubbish imo.
I hope it has more awkward relationships forced into it so I can have the ultimate Bioware experience.
I hope it has more awkward relationships forced into it so I can have the ultimate Bioware experience.
This is another of their many failings. They throw that shit into their games and flaunt themselves as being all progressive but it's all shallow and awkward as fuck and about as titillating as a kick to the balls.
Not even considering preordering or buying this and maybe not even pirating it just to see if they made it better. I have no more faith in Bioware especially after the colossal fuckup that was ME3. DA2 I let pass because I didn't realize on my first playthrough that everything takes place in the same few locations
Yes! Awesome! I can't wait to stumble back into a gay romance by simple complimenting someone!
I'd say Mass Effect 1 was the last time Bioware wrote an excellent plot and characters, before that Kotor and Kotor 2 are probably the only examples of RPG's I can think of where the characters were genuinely original and consistently likeable. You can pretty much describe and feel the traits and character of any party member in Kotor, but seriously, try and describe Ashley/Kaidan, without saying they're unreasonable (thanks ME2) whiny bitches. Literally the only thing memorable to me about the former is the one conversation where she turns out to be a complete alien racist in the first game, and the conversations about her parents and sister in that game, specifically how her father is the only human ever to surrender to an alien race.
And Kotor 2 wasn't even by Bioware, Obsidian made that. [editline]21st December 2013[/editline] Bioware have a serious issue with basically writing the same character as well. See Carth/Kaiden/Jacob
Kaiden had differences from Jacob, but unless you talked to him for like four hours straight you would never know about them. i mean his backstory didn't really effect his character too much but it's there and it's enough to separate him from Jacob imo. but Jacob just has daddy issues, much like literally every other character in Mass Effect 2
threads about bioware on FP always turn into a ME discussion, where are all the DA fans? personally, I think DA1 was one of the best games I've ever played. just amazing, I've played through it at least 5 times, and dear god, DA2 was just one of the biggest disappointments I've had with the gaming industry, ever

The gameplay footage looks pretty similar to Skyrim with a bad ENB. Even the walking animations look familiar.

They're literally the same character even down to the voice actor except Mission is 14 and Vette is older (and therefore bonable.)

Brianna I have no clue, she's no Jedi just bound by some oath to Atris forbidding any Jedi training. Besides Chris Avellone said he couldn't do a romance in KOTOR 2 because someone would have to die. Canderous had more to him, he was an aging war vet who wanted to reunite the Manadalorian clans under on banner for the better, very similar to Wrex but not to grunt.

It took me three tries to get really invested in DA1 but once I did it was pretty enjoyable.

I think the Citadel DLC was pretty damn cool, though it really feels like it should have been a "post-game" thing to make it feel more authentic. And honestly, and I know I'm in the minority here, but I thought Dragon Age II was OK. Nothing to sneeze at but I can't say I hate it.

Example: The Galaxy is getting bum fucked by the Reapers now why don't we start another war with the Geth?

It took me 4 or 5 tries to even get to Ostagar. As for DA 2 there were a few good things in it, Varric was the one well written character, and the ideas of the Qunari invasion or the tensions in the Circle but everything was just poorly executed. The best parts of DA2 were the DLC, which just focused on a single thing and there was fewer things to fuck up.

i love DA's dullness, in a way it's just that i'm tired of fantasy games that try to paint the genre as NOTHING but big epic tales, and the simplicity (and consequentially, the relative dullness) of origins is one of the main things that appealed to me not saying that dullness is a necessary byproduct of a more down to earth fantasy universe, but it is one that's often hard to avoid, and in the case of DA:O, it's a thing i can easily ignore

Better start calling in favours."

me2 was actually worse than pointless, even though me3 practically ignored it anyway In ME the antag was Saren, and the bigger bad guys were the reapers. In ME2 the bigger bad guys were still the reapers, but you didn't have an antagonist. The collectors were mere extensions of the Reapers. Cerberus did a good thing into looking after human colonies but the collectors couldn't have made a Reaper in 6 months before the main force came anyway, and they couldn't attack any really big targets cause the rest of the galaxy would just kill em. So instead of doing the smart thing (like anything else) Shep decides to literally fuck off from his duty and the main plot to go blow up the collectors, and then kill merc gangs and then go to prison. This affected NOTHING that the Reapers or anyone/thing did in ME3. don't forget the retard prize, repar babby and shepard surviving re-entry, and being exposed to the elements without a helmet (ME3 tells us that his brain is preserved... even tho the helmet's still at the wreckage and it's a very inhospitable planet) and let's not go into the fact that a shadow broker probe made it back from the omega 4 relay BEFORE SHEPARD GOES THERE but TIM can't send anything through so they go in blind without recon THEY SHOULD AND COULD HAVE GOTTEN also the normandy is finished but it isn't because you have to upgrade literally everything also the fact that it is the second story and you have to take it as canon while ME3 completely shits all over it it's so bad you could have cut the first disc from ME3 and called it ME2 and it would have worked better
