Glen James alerted police after he found the backpack containing cash and traveller's cheques last weekend, and the bag's owner was then tracked down. A complete stranger later started an online fund for Mr James after reading media reports about his honesty.
Fundraiser page Original thread
Lets hope he puts it to good use.
Uh, is the money actually going to get to him or is this "kind stranger" managing the donation drive going to run off with it?
Lets hope he puts it to good use.
$110000 gets you a lot of booze.
and a lot of crack i wish i was him
Goddamn He could theoretically pay for a college education with that money, if he could get accepted somewhere. Wouldn't that be something. Terribly optimistic, yes, but that'd be a story for the ages.
I'm reminded of those two homeless dudes who spent 500 Euros of money they found on hookers. $110,000 could buy a lot of hookers or one really good one.
Uh, is the money actually going to get to him or is this "kind stranger" managing the donation drive going to run off with it?
He definitely could.
That's nice, hopefully he invests it well.

Ok, here's what we're going to do. Let's pool our money into a huge amount and then "lose" it. Then one of us will return it, and we'll all get our money back. Only, that person will get donations for doing such a kind thing. That person will then split those donations amongst everyone who contributed to the initial pool. Sounds good? Let's keep quiet about this for now though. And most certainly do NOT post this on the internet
Isn't that a ponzi scheme.
No. A ponzi scheme is where you pay off investors with their own money or the money of new investors to keep up appearances of actually reinvesting the money. What zeke is talking about is getting a group of people together who are all in on the scheme, they'll each invest into the scheme and one person will claim they've found a bunch of money and brings it to the police, another member of the group will claim it as theirs. The one claiming to have found the money will get a huge ass reward and you then give everyone back the money they invested plus a share of the reward money.
Holy fuck school in the US is expensive
Only if you go to a state/private college. I'm going to community college and paying ~$6k a year. There is a bias towards degrees from bigger colleges from what I can tell though.

Just because you pay more doesn't mean you get better education. What it really comes down to is your professors and/or how well you partake in study.

Thank god I managed to get in for free
It still feels so wrong to me that students has to start out their adult life by paying a huge sum of money to even get an education. Why rule out all the people that can't get that amount of money?
Things like this make me feel there is such a thing as karma. Really hope he puts that money to good use.
Getting a better education than you are for €1900 a year.
Getting a better education then you are for £0 per year *Go UK*
Holy fuck school in the US is expensive
If you go to a private univeristy like I do, all fees for a year are about $40,000 so $160,000 over my career in school. I for one find this a bit overdone. Doesn't this kind of ring back that "One shouldn't do good deeds just to get rewarded" I mean realistically, no one is going to do good deeds just for the sake of doing a good deed, two men sat outside a supermarket needing a light for their cigarettes, while I was in, I went ahead and grabbed two lighters and gave them to the men outside. Should I be rewarded with money from people around the US because I was nice to them?
Getting a better education then you are for £0 per year *Go UK*
That's not for the whole of the UK is it though.
Getting a better education then you are for £0 per year *Go UK*
Scotland only, unless you're doing one of a few NHS funded courses. Most of the country, you're looking at £9k a year, and more if an international student.

But the rest of the UK can't.
The majority of the UK is £9k a year, it went up a few years ago because the Lib Dems are backstabbing ASSHOLES. You can get it free in Scotland and cheaper in Cornwall but only if you go to a Cornish uni and come from Cornwall.
