[B]A mural by street artist Banksy showing two children playing with a "no ball games" sign has been cut out of a wall in Tottenham, north London. That's gotta be an ugly feeling. What kinda selfish jerk would steal a gift to the public like that?
He said the artwork had been defaced a number of times
Why would anyone do that
Why would anyone do that
Money? Its kind of obvious.
I didn't mean why would anyone steal it, I meant why would anyone deface it/try to ruin it all together? people are assholes
Because they can. People who have no control over their life lash out in odd ways.
According to the article, the owners of the building didn't want it there. It sucks that it's being removed from the public, but it's being kept intact when it's sold. That's better than just having it painted over, and the money from the auction is going to charity.
I didn't mean why would anyone steal it, I meant why would anyone deface it/try to ruin it all together?
Rivalry between artists, groups and so on. Made me think of this thing I saw: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/b4QB2.jpg[/thumb]

[editline]26th July 2013[/editline] Also that was the first (if I'm not mistaken) mural in london
Why would anyone do that
The artwork was put up without permission and the person who owned the wall didn't want it there. It's vandalism, so it's an easy target for further vandalism. If you willingly deface someone else's property to make a political statement I don't think you're in much of a position to cry foul if they destroy or sell it.
It's graffiti regardless of who does it. Whatever happens to it is part of its history and character.
New Payday 2 heist confirmed
How can nobody notice? Isn't it on a main road in Tottenham? I just don't know how you steal layers of a wall. A giant cloth to wipe it off, then wipe a wall somewhere else and it reappears! As with any criminal act, it doesn't actually become a criminal act without it being reported or processed in some way. If it were really seen as intrusive, the council would've had it cleaned up ages ago. This is just cold.
Why should I, let alone anyone else care about some random street artist? Should we put up articles whenever someone is robbed?
The article doesn't mention who did it, but it's kind of odd taking out a section of a wall, though obviously the incentive is money. This piece of graffiti was something everyone could go out and look at, now it's just going to be a part of some rich guys private collection [editline]26th July 2013[/editline]
Why should I, let alone anyone else care about some random street artist?
Why should I, let alone anyone else care about some random street artist? Should we put up articles whenever someone is robbed?
Because he functions much like any other artist, except he's a really really good one.
It used to be covered to stop others spraying over it
