State Supreme Court Justice Milton Tingling in Manhattan ruled the new regulation was "arbitrary and capricious" and declared it invalid, after the American Beverage Association and other business groups had sued the city challenging the ban. Mayor Michael Bloomberg had touted the ban as a way to reduce obesity. But beverage manufacturers and business groups had called the law an illegal overreach that would infringe upon consumers' personal liberty.
Good, now if more stupid ass laws could have the same thing happen we'd be set.
Good, now if more stupid ass laws could have the same thing happen we'd be set.
There are enough laws on the books currently to last several lifetimes worth of reading, not even talking about the tax code and things like that.

What was wrong with the law?
What was wrong with the law?
If I want a oversized drink I should be allowed to get it.
What was wrong with the law?
It's not the drink's fault kids are fat, it's the parents fault.
What was wrong with the law?
Banned the sale of sugary drinks over a certain size. Good idea to follow for one's personal health, but absolutely ridiculous to have a law about. That and us New Yorkers don't take kindly to some one telling us what we can and can't do. Oh and what was stopping anyone from just buying multiple smaller ones?
There are enough laws on the books currently to last several lifetimes worth of reading, not even talking about the tax code and things like that.
Half the laws passed, the people passing them haven't even read to begin with. How about repeal those?
What was wrong with the law?
You're cutting off fine drinks for everyone because a few fat fucks that fail to have the discipline to order water instead of a coke at restaurants. This looks like a collective punishment
Good. Banning drinks because it causes obesity is stupid. Its like banning sweets because the parents cant figure out its not a good diet.
What was wrong with the law?
it's like banning pens and pencils because children have bad handwriting
This is good, the real issues are the oversized straws. If straws are necked down further, people won't be able to ingest as much soda.
Good news, all things considered. Watch as someone cries how the ruling is a terrible blow to health or parents claiming it's impossible to actually do take responsibility.
fuck you smurfy, you stole my article! :yarr:
Yeah I think it'd be better to focus on educating the public instead of trying to ban stuff. But then again quick fixes are what politicians do best.
All that sugar...
thank christ, bloomberg was retarded for even thinking this shit up, if i wanna drown myself in sweet sugary death thats my decision.
Oh and what was stopping anyone from just buying multiple smaller ones?
exactly, its like it never went through their mind a person could just buy, say, a 16oz and another 16oz to get the 32oz they desired.
Half the laws passed, the people passing them haven't even read to begin with. How about repeal those?
I'd settle for dumping all the current congress and senate out an airlock. 98% of the legislature is so bogged down in bullshit that it may as well not even be as the bill or law states.
What was wrong with the law?
Governing bodies shouldn't tell us what we can and can't get. If I want a giantass drink then by fucking god I will go out and get a giantass drink and no-one will stop me because it only effects me.
I'd settle for dumping all the current congress and senate out an airlock. 98% of the legislature is so bogged down in bullshit that it may as well not even be as the bill or law states.
One can only dream...
If I want a oversized drink I should be allowed to get it.
not to mention since we're subsidizing the corn syrup companies which makes these sodas, i should be able to buy the same products im forced to pay by taxes
How do sodas get closer to bans than cigarettes?
How do sodas get closer to bans than cigarettes?
Politicians need something to make laws about. That's called job security.
It's not the drink's fault kids are fat, it's the parents fault.
i'd say it's a combination of bad parenting, economics, education, irresponsible marketing, and a culture that advocates consumerist gluttony.
not to mention since we're subsidizing the corn syrup companies which makes these sodas, i should be able to buy the same products im forced to pay by taxes
Corn syrup are in many contexts worse than sugar. The corn could've been used for biofuels instead, or the farm area previously dominated by corn production could be used to cultivate Suger beets.
Corn syrup are in many contexts worse than sugar. Good. It's a stupid law and doesn't do anything useful. People will just order two, or bring some from home. It wouldn't even put a dent in the 'epidemic'.
It's not the drink's fault kids are fat, it's the parents fault.
I dunno. Those drinks can be pretty seductive.
Didn't Boston do this?
