• Microsoft does not deny that Xbox 360's failure rate is 54 percent

So, Microsoft has responded to a recent survey that found that the failure rate for its Xbox 360 video game console is an astonishing 54.2 percent ... by not denying that it's a face. Here's the response: "Microsoft stands behind the Xbox 360 as a superior entertainment console with one of the best warranties in the industry. We are constantly improving the design, manufacture and performance of the console through extensive testing of potential sources of any problems. Xbox 360 is pleased to maintain the title of 'most played console' and the vast majority of Xbox 360 customers have enjoyed a terrific gaming and entertainment experience since their first day, and continue to, day in and day out." Um. Wow. So... It has a great warranty (which its unreliability makes a requirement). And they're making it more reliable over time. There you go, folks. ----- Source Paul Thurrott's blog: http://community.winsupersite.com/blogs/paul/archive/2009/08/23/microsoft-does-not-deny-that-xbox-360-s-failure-rate-is-54-percent.aspx ----- 54%....What the fuck Microsoft. Then they call it superior. Hahahahahahahaha. Morons.. Does anyone else find this number downright hilarious?
This is the only reason I'm not buying an Xbox360. The mortality rate of the system seems to be amazingly big, all of my friends have had theirs die at least once. EDIT: Also, there is a Microsoft forum and an Xbox360 forum.
the first gen 360s had i high failure rate but the newer consoles have a much lower failure rate
I had a 360 from launch and it died right before the 3 year warranty ended.

I know a lot of people who have had to get their Xbox3260s replaced.

After it finally came back(a month), I realized the community was full of spoiled children. I bought a PC. I still miss halo though.:frown:
Well, they do release it after a few years for PC :v:. A few years.
ive had my xbox for 3 years. Not a single problem with it. Nor has any of my friends had one of thiers break. My microsoft is better then your microsoft :I
Mine still hasnt broke with the RROD, but i put a scratched gta4 disc in and it wouldnt read disks, fixed that though :v:
Had mine for about a year, nothing wrong with it. Yet.
I had an xbox 360 from it's launch and it failed twice. Microsoft destroyed the disk drive and sent it back to me so I ended up getting an Elite.
It's hilarious, though - I believe Flextronics handles manufacturing for them so I really believe it's Microsoft's own fault.
Is it true that most of the failiures are due to overheating? That makes me think about idiots sticking their console under the TV with no ventilation at all. In which case, it's not microsofts fault.
The actual problem was because the GPU was attached to the MoBo with lead-free solder. When the console heated up (as it does) the lack of lead in the solder made the solder balls crack. The problem was solved in the Jasper series of Xboxs by going back to the older 35% lead solder. Their mistake? Trying to be innovative. 10/10 for effort Microsoft. Wish I could say the same for the results.

They've made some questionable decisions (air dams, shite heatsink/no thermal paste, exposed ASIC, the fact that they tried to design their own processor and GPU and failed hard), but they've tried to correct them (remember the x-clamp?).

mine is a launch console, hasn't failed me yet. my best friend also has a launch console and his hasn't failed either
54 percents... What the fuck! PS3 has, like 1%? Seriously, they'd better do something about that... 54%...
this is why i got a PS3, no hardware errors of any kind. i also have a 360 though because my brother bought it, and apparently it has had 3 red rings of death and it STILL works fine!
Every Xbox 360 I've ever owned has died. I've owned 3 of them. That's 100% fail rate. Every PS3 I've ever owned has worked flawlessly. I've only purchased one. That's 0% fail rate. My friends have the same experience.
54 percents... What the fuck! PS3 has, like 1%? Seriously, they'd better do something about that... 54%...
You should get your facts straight, it's not as if the PS3 is error free also.
the first gen 360s had i high failure rate but the newer consoles have a much lower failure rate
I bought an XBox 360 a month after it was released and it lasted me until earlier this year when I sold it to a friend. It still works as far as I know.
Thats actually pretty similar to the nVidia fuck up last year on the 8series and 9series.
I have a laptop with said fuckup gpu :argh: It's been RMA'd once because the gfx suddenly died, didn't even overheat :sigh:
This was one of the reasons I bought a PS3. It broke :( (Repaired under warranty no problems, but still annoying :v: )
I've had my xbox 360 on for around 10 hours a day for the last few days and no rrod yet.

I'm pretty sure lead free solder is now a requirement for electronics in the EU, so MS were complying with that.
I have a launch console and it has gotten RROD about 4 times, each being different. I've just bought my second cooler for it, after the first one melted. My component video cable melted, and my first power supply went bad. [editline]09:17AM[/editline] My PS3 I got a year later, has worked flawlessly.
