• Is Cycling a good alternative to Jogging for increasing Stamina?

I can't seem to find a fitness thread so I'm going to shoot in the dark and hope someone here knows if cycling is a good alternative to jogging for increasing stamina. Right now I'm starting a routine where I either bike for somewhere around 10km or just spend an hour on an exercise bike. I play baseball so I wonder if this routine is decent enough for me to build up my stamina so I don't actually get murdered when I do actually have to jog and sprint a bunch during training.
I always feel that cycling needs more time and energy before it starts to get rewarding. A jog in the morning wouldn't tire you down that much and only energize you more for the rest of the day.

I think as long as you don't push yourself too hard and keep your heart rate in the right zone you will see nice improvement in stamina, although I don't know if it's better or worse than jogging in any way, I'm pretty far from an expert.
Cycling is also much less stressful on your joints and your feet than jogging. You also won't wear out pairs of shoes very fast/at all. There's a fitness thread in GD, it's title might say bodybuilding but fitness/nutrition/etc are also welcome there.

I personally enjoy riding my bike more than jogging which is why I was curious to know if it's a decent enough alternative. I also have an exercise bike at home,so on days where I feel lazy I could just ride it while watching some Youtube videos on TV. Cycling is fine.
Cycling is a great form of Cardio, jogging/running is not only bad for the knee joints but has actually been proven to be damaging to your health over a certain length of time. i don't cycle that often, but i can say that it's a great workout alternative and somehow people keep telling me that cycling is shit and i won't benefit from that
I heard that those cycling seats screw with your prostate and semen count
I heard that those cycling seats screw with your prostate and semen count
Dunno about your prostate but they can absolutely make sitting down afterwards challenging. Padded cycling shorts are a good investment if you plan on cycling a lot. Edit: Depending on your bike and seat type obviously.

If you want something you can do every morning every day just to keep yourself moving cycling is a great option, I am no health expert at all but as a Dutch person who rides his bicycle to uni every single morning it's great to keep yourself in shape next to some other sports. Hell, just ride your bicycle to everywhere possible when it is close enough.
I started to cycle for a few hours every couple days. Brought my mile time from 9 minutes to just under 7. Cycling is very effective

I'm planning on getting a new bike somewhere down the line since my current one is getting to short for my legs. Any recommendations on bikes?Types and Prices. Currently looking at Road Bikes and Touring Bikes, leaning more on a touring bike since I would prefer to be upright most of the time.
Rather interesting thread I must say. I have a bike that has been taking dust for quite a while, and I'm in dire need for a stamina increase. The only thing I know for sure about Cycling vs Jogging is that your joints will like you more for it
My grandfather use to cycle tons and never had any knee problems. He was one healthy SOB up until he needed a pacemaker put in.

Make sure you keep a consistent cadence and your stamina will improve by MILES. I commute an hour to work everyday and I ride a cheap old racing bike at about 80% of my power, very effective and way more forgiving to the body compared to running. Touring bikes are good for.. touring, you just can't get the performance out of it like you can with a race bike. However if the bike is a wrong fit it might translate into your back, so when buying a race bike take it out for a test ride and see if you feel comfortable. You're better off running around with cinderblocks tied to your back with fishing wire then cycling with a bike too small or too big. ~ Also if it's astethics you're after: [t]http://www.noordertuin.be/wp-content/uploads/167-kanaal-dessel-schoten-brecht.gif[/t] vs [t]https://thebikelane.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/contador.jpg[/t] Fucken swag.
