MOSCOW, November 7 (RIA Novosti) - US President Barack Obama would like to visit Russia, Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul said on Wednesday.
Obama would especially like to go to St. Petersburg, which he has never been to, McFaul added in an interview on Radio Ekho Moskvy.
He did not say exactly when the visit could take place.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated US President Barack Obama on his election victory, the Kremlin press service said on Wednesday.
“Putin noted the results reached in the past years in developing Russian-US relations and expressed hope for further constructive joint work both on bilateral agenda and on acute global and regional problems,” the Kremlin press service said in a statement.
The Russian president also “stressed that cooperation between countries like Russia and the US is of key importance for stable and secure global development.”
“Tangible results have been reached in the past years in developing our bilateral relations. However, an array of tasks remains to be solved in order to reach the full potential of mutually beneficial cooperation,” he said.
The Russian leader reiterated his invitation for Obama to visit Russia next year.
Putin sent his congratulations to Obama on Wednesday afternoon, and spokesman Dmitry Peskov told RIA Novosti that the Kremlin “positively” welcomes Obama’s reelection.
Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev added that he was "glad" the victor was "not someone who considers Russia enemy number one."

Communist party almost got 20% of the vote. Alot of the other parties are left-leaning too. While their political situation has changed, they retain about the same geopolitical stance and try to constantly expand their influence.
Last week, a romney visited Russia.

Who's Romney and why does he matter anymore?
Just saying. It's hypocritical to call this shit on someone, when that side had the same things.
I don't see anywhere in the article where there is "republican criticism of possibly being a communist." Am I blind or is OP full of shit?
God forbid a President wants to visit a country to deal with foreign policy.
obongo is discussing ways to destroy the economy

I know, but to say it isn't left leaning at the minimum is not true.

I would just like to point out that the Liberal Democratic Party, despite its name, is actually far-right. The Communist Party has nationalist (and Stalinist) tendencies too.
Possibly? They wont shut the fuck up that he IS 100% communist. They haven't really thrown any "maybe"'s into it
