Hello. I've decided to do a new thread about this because of a thread here on FP that caught my attention.
In short, its about how people say the police cant do shit and are corrupt and arent good, while in reality, they have to deal with alot of stuff.
I like to think of it this way, without them, who would enforce the law?
Thats the thing. Their just there for show.
Ill tell you guys a story of mine.
Some months ago, me and some friends went to smoke some pot behind a cafe. Dont go with the "ah you smoke drugs, you noob" deal and whatnot, because I dont anymore.
Anyway, we were caught by 2 cops that were passing by. We could actually get out of it since we didnt have enough to even have them on our faces, but, we didnt know, so we started to hide it showing that we had it.
They come up to us, start talking about how dirty the place was, and then they found the cigar on the floor. They grabbed it, started talking about how it was wrong, and then they asked who sold us that stuff. As obvious, we lied. They said bullshit and asked again for the real seller (they really said bullshit). They started with the same old conversation about how its just better for us to tell who it was and that we are the only winners in the end of it and stuff... (Which in the end, we clearly are not, explanation coming)
1 of us gave a fake name about some guy called Nitro that wears a red cap and lives a mile away from there. They ate that lie like saps and even mentioned they knew him. Lucky us, what are the odds of inventing a name and have them fall for it saying they know about it? We wouldnt say the truth about who it was, because we'd wake up dead or without clothes and a new set of "holes in the grin" and bruises.
So, they asked us were do we live, we handed out our ID's, or my friends did... I didnt have mine, so I had to say my info. I could have lied, but that could be bad for me in the future.
Here starts the cool facts. None of them knew where I lived, even though that place is crawling with gypsys that sell fucktons of coke, and even though I live right next to a cop's wife or a woman that has a cop son-in-law. I forgot. Then, they cant even spell my damn name, even though its easy as hell. Sure they dont need it, but thats not all.
Then, last but not least, they ask us why we smoke that stuff even though it sucks ass, to which I respond "Its a way to getting out of problems for a while. To relax..."
They basically went "What?!" and proceeded to tell us that we should go get some beer's or vodka or whisky instead and if we wanted pleasure, we should go get some hookers.
After this, my consideration about them went down alot. Even though they might have been joking, who the hell says that? What nice responsability... Id rather go brain dead from the pot then getting STD's or some liver disease... Then, before leaving, they take the cigar away (obviously) with them, and even say their going to smoke it down at the precint, which I think it WOULD be true so they wouldnt have to do any paper work about it or anything. They were also very rude. I understand why, but still, 1 of them is said to have a bad temper for no reason at all, and I mean it.
The only good thing about all that was that it set my head straight into never getting into it again, but this left me another bad impression of the cops, which I will tell next why.
This year, we were all sitting at the cafe, doing nothing, just passing time waiting for classes. They came by, said good afternoon and all was fine. Surprise surprise, one of them was 1 that was there when we got caught. Then, out of nothing, 1 of them starts whinning at us asking were we got the chairs from. We said that it was the cafe were we were, but, he still insisted that we put them were they were, even though we can use them without any problems at all. He started shouting at us saying we were disrespecting him, while he was the only 1 shouting and disrespecting us. The cafe owner told them it was fine, and a friend of mine sorta rubbed it in their faces slightly. It was just a "See? We can use them!" To which 1 of them tells him to shut up and starts whispering to go to hell in a little meaner words...
Pretty respectfull huh? And we didnt even do anything at all to piss them off...
This isnt the only thing. Alot of time ago, some kids started fighting at school. 2 cops were coming in their direction, they saw the fight, and yet, they didnt do jack shit about it. They just walked calmly to it as if nothing was going on...
Other times, you can see them standing in one place just looking around staring at stuff doing nothing, or, like the other 2, calmly walking by as if they were doing their morning walk.
The only, and ONLY time I ever see them do anything, is when they find something to fine. Just the other day, some guy on my street parked his car wrong (how wrong I dont know, but I think it wasnt even parked in the wrong place) and they were all over him right away, passing a ticket. These are the only times they ever do something...
I was going to say they dont need to fight crime with capes and be all over the criminals like on movies, but thats all they do. Fine fine fine!
My house got robbed by god knows who or what. They came here, got alot of prints (or so they said), evaluated the damage done in like 1000 euros or more. A couple of months later, case archived. Not enough evidence. Bravo... What happened to the prints they got? They used them to fill their huge stomachs?
The junkies around town. They all roam around asking for money. What do they do? Nothing.
The junkies that are reported to them. Arrest them? Hell no! I heard 6 cops got their asses kicked by 2 junkies, even though they have nightsticks and guns and the junkies dont have squat!
Hell, the cop that caught me smoking pot didnt even remember where my house was!
My dad gave them a glass of the window they used to get through, and they said it was too late, nothing could be done. Oh wow, surprise...
And some people say that the cop who lives near the school is a junkie himself, who has been caught "jogging" along with a drugged bitch that hangs around town.
Its like people say. There are cops, and cops. But the cops here in my town dont deserve much more respect than a normal civilian. Sometimes, they deserve less.
where do you live?

ok
Fuck da police son!
Becose they cant say police.
I don't think the real world can be put into a 'the police are good/the police are bad' all encompassing statement. At the end of the day, like with every job in the world, some people are gonna be good at it and follow the rules, some aren't and most people are going to be in that gray area in between.
So instead of weed, they suggested getting drunk off your ass and buying some hookers?
I love Portugal
Stop seeing things in such a black and white way, people are a grey area regardless of their job.
If you respect the police, take a trip to Colombia. Your view of police officers will change.

oh gee, the police in a country run by drug lords are corrupt?
this is obviously the model by which you should base all police officers..
Because they're ignorant.
Cops risk their lives to protect yours.
Wait till one of them fucks up with you personally before branding them all as useless fucks.
Better yet, just call the cops who cross you useless fucks and leave the rest out of it.
Portugal
Isso é estranho, até mesmo para o nosso pais.
Translation:
That's wierd, even for our country.
caops will always have a bad name no matter what, there is nothing to be done to change it because the only thing that can be done is putting more money in their hands to put more police into a community setting so people see them in a helping light instead of a crime busting light, i have called cops and asked for rides to places very frequently, its a service they provide, almost all departments will give intoxicated people rides to prevent them from endangering others, also, take a ride along with them, its your right to see them in duty, ride with them and see what they are all about its actually really interesting and gets you out of trouble if you show any interest in their line if work

I did. Before I became a "useless fuck". They did soooooo muuuch that they even got my stuff back. (sarcasm)
And im 110% sure that they wouldnt risk their lives for mine.
First: Because there never are situations of the sort here. Ever.
Second: They cant do anything right. The only thing they can do right is walking, bugging kids just to be all "obey me i iz teh law", passing fines and setting barriers on the road.
Aside from that, nothing else.
Oh, and to top that, even at passing fines they suck. My street had a family that had like 4 cars which were parked in the wrong place every freaking day and they never ever said anything to them.
So you made a new thread about it? What?
Guys.. guys..
Guys..
Did you watch my videos?

No, they risk their lives for a paycheck. Because it's their job.
Since when the fuck do you love anyone for doing their damn job?
Do you trust bakers completely because they make doughnuts for you?
See, I'd be thankful to a baker who gives me a doughnut for free. But I, and every other taxpayer, pay cops to do their job. That's as much thanks as is necessary. They get paid to do a service and they're expected to do it.
Not all Cops are incompetent scumbags. I haven't met a single cop that hasn't been overly polite, it has always been "Boys will be boys, heh" or "Well.. don't do it again".
Seen a few rush into pretty nasty situations as well, used to have some bad neighbours that got into knife fights with each other.
Now private security firms however is a completely different story, those cowards even encourage criminals when caught in the act just because they are outnumbered or the criminal looks dangerous(True story, a friend of mine had three guys pounding on him in the middle of the night, a Securitas car pulled up and the guy told them they were doing a good job then drove off)

Anyone who wants a similar paycheck to a police officer without the risk could be a plumber. They make a shitload more than Police officers, actually. Most people join the police force because they want to protect people, Lankist. We can't help it if you have a particularly dull view of humanity, but why state it as fact? I'm sure as hell not becoming a police officer for a paycheck. If that was my motivation, I'd have given up on the idea long ago. I could have done better in a 9 to 5 job with no civil liability and less danger, a job in which I'm actually thanked for the work I do.
Don't be judgemental of any institution without fully understanding it. Weren't you accusing ME of being judgemental a while ago?
Fuck the police
You know there's a 'Repy' button if you want to make a response to a thread, right?
Okay, Lankist. I read about your history, and you've led a very fucked childhood. I've had it far better than you. Maybe I've got a naive outlook, but at the very least, I know my motivations. Can we not agree that some police officers are only in it for the money, but not all of them?

I'm not saying there aren't good cops.
I'm saying it's not a stretch of the imagination to assume you aren't dealing with a good cop when you come into contact with them.
