• Motherboard won't change drives back to AHCI after out-of-the-blue shutoff

Alright, I was working on some stuff on my desktop (running windows 8), then without warning, it just shuts off. I turn it back on, and it says something about updates, trys to log in, then it blue screens. I check my motherboard, and even though it says that the SATA configuration is AHCI, all my drives are in IDE mode. When I installed Win8 they were in AHCI. I'm fairly sure that the problem is the drives not changing from IDE, but it could be that my entire installation of Windows is fucked. I have an ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 Motherboard. So far I've tried resetting the CMOS, attempting to repair windows, unplugging and replugging in the drives, and multiple restarts. [editline]17th May 2013[/editline] Wow, no matter what I do, the drives just won't go into AHCI mode. They'll go into IDE and RAID, and thats it. So fucking suck of this motherboard.
So AHCI mode won't stay on in the BIOS? In Windows 7 there is a registry change to switch back and forth between AHCI mode and IDE. Not sure if it works the same in Win8, but perhaps you could set the bios to IDE and boot into safe mode, and change the registry to support IDE mode. Then restart into windows, and change the registry back to AHCI mode from there.

[editline]17th May 2013[/editline] And now its not even getting to the point of logging in. It stays at the loading screen for a bit, then BSODs. [editline]17th May 2013[/editline] Is there any way to install the IDE drivers without actually getting into the OS? All I can really work with here is the command line. [editline]17th May 2013[/editline] Alright, well my MB is still under warranty (somehow). I'm just gonna contact live support tomorrow and see if i can get it replaced/upgraded. Suggestions on how to fix this are still accepted though.
IDE drivers should be installed by default. I really do think you have motherboard failure. Hope your RMA works out
Ok, I just got into my computer using safe mode. This is getting really weird.
