Transgender rights bill threatens 'female-born' women's spaces, activists say
Two feminists are warning the Senate's legal and constitutional affairs committee that passing the federal transgender rights bill could threaten the existence of exclusively "female-born" women's spaces, like rape crisis centres, a controversial argument that has ignited a debate over who should call themselves a woman.
"We are worried that this well-intentioned legislation will be used to undermine the rights of women and the crucial work of women's groups," Hilla Kerner, a collective member of the Vancouver Rape Relief and Women's Shelter, told the Red Chamber committee studying Bill C-16.
"What we are saying is: If you were born a female, you are doomed. You are doomed in our society to be second-class. You do not have the privilege of growing as a male and have a choice to choose to be a woman. Surely, you cannot say these are the same thing."
Bill C-16 would update the Canadian Humans Rights Act and the Criminal Code to include the terms "gender identity" and "gender expression." The House of Commons voted overwhelmingly in favour of these protections for the trans community, and sent the bill to the Senate last November.
What the fuck.

Oh grow a goddamn spine and stop making up bullshit to cover your insecurities. This bill won't undermine jackshit, but will serve as a very important protection against a group that's already heavily discriminated against just for existing. Your ignorance and insecurities aren't going to change why this bill is necessary.

Hey whoops you accidentally dropped this, I think it's your credibility.
Imagine actually believing gender dysphoria is a "choice" :why:
Don't forget, if you're born male you can't transition those evil male rape genes away.
Fuck TERFs
terfs are the cancer of the feminist movement
I think that trans people should definitely be protected from discrimination, also women aren't second class citizens in most western first world countries like Canada and the US, but this business of forcing people legally to refer to you however you want can easily get out of hand especially when you have these special snowflakes who want to be called Zi and Zir and identify as non-genders. I think in order to be considered officially and legally as the opposite gender that you should be confimed through a doctor to be transitioning and that could have the benefit of actually making sure they get the counselling they need and are sure of this very serious life desicion.
TERFs (trans exclusionary radical feminists) have been at odds with the tranagender community since thr 1970s, theyre really scummy people

I didn't know until now that there was a select group of feminists that are actively against transgenderism.
The way the article reads, she thinks that only women can get raped.
[sp]unless im gay and rape crisis centers are actually female only[/sp]

Seems some people have moved on from "gay is a choice" to "(Gender dysphoria)disgusting women men are a choice"
They've always got to hate on someone for being born a certain way.

For those who are too lazy to watch this:
Basically the argument is that gender identity "isn't definable" because the legal system defines it as an internal experience but she goes on some tirade about how it's a social construct. She then argues that gender doesn't exist and is imposed on us, so it isn't an internal experience, and then points out that gender is neither internal nor a choice. She then talks briefly (but irrelevantly) about how patriarchy was invented to control women's reproductive freedom and how gender was invented to enforce that system. Then she mentions that women are discriminated against throughout the world, using examples which do not occur in Canada and would be obviously illegal under Canadian law as it stands. She argues (rather ironically, in my opinion) that women are unable to express a male gender because they will still be oppressed. She did not "choose to be treated like a woman under the patriarchy". However, then she turns around and says that erasing the distinction between genders is equivalent to erasing the distinction between races. To wrap it all up, she claims that if a man "takes on sexist stereotypes traditionally associated with women" he should not be able to "magically change sex" and become a woman.
In essence, gender is a social construct that doesn't exist, but we can't get rid of it because race is equivalent and that does exist. And yet we also cannot allow men to become women, but if a woman tries to become a man, it is "oppression" for anyone to consider her still to be a woman. And despite the fact that gender is not a choice, we can't protect against the discrimination of transgender people, because it means we will be validating the idea that men can become women without still benefiting from the patriarchy.
So basically a nutty bitch who can't argue a straightforward point, contradicts herself repeatedly, and tries to essentially say that transgender people don't deserve the same protections as women because they used to be men.
Also don't read the comments, there are a lot of fucking dumb radfems supporting this nonsense

All of that (referring to the doctor/counseling part) already happens, and "special snowflakes" won't change anything.
Anyways, TERFs are really scummy, and them speaking out against equal rights for trans people is not a surprise. They've been doing so for a long time, after all.
i wanna bang my head against a wall.
are they for, or not equality? it's a god damned yes or no question for fucks sake.
Say it with me boys!
FUCK TERFS!
-snip-
Confused these two with another two.
This is pretty fucking ridiculous though.

Turns out feminism predates intersectionality :eng101s:
TERFs are the scum of the earth.

I mean, it's literally the definition of TERF.

It happens but as far as I've seen it happens very poorly. All Lauren Southern had to do was say the magic words "I felt like a boy for a long time" and she was okayed by the doctors.

Gender disphoria is a serious issue that should be properly diagnosed and treated by a professional. I would consider legally becoming the opposite sex as a part of the treatment that happens after councelling and transitioning under a doctors supervision.
People who crossdress and transition socially just to reinvent themselves or follow a trend can do what they want but I dont think they're entitled to the same legal protections and medical attention that people who are legitimately suffering from gender dysphoria need.

Lauren Southern is a reactionary conservative. She went through this process of changing her legal gender identity not because of any gender dysphoria she feels (which she does not), but because she's trying to make a farce of trans rights. She does not consider herself a man nor does she expect anyone else to; she's simply made herself a straw man for the alt right to link to whenever they see something about a trans person.
Why does a liar cheating her way through gatekeeping for a joke mean we have to trample legitimate trans people who sincerely wish to transition and be accepted?
Fucking hate TERFs almost as much as I hate Lauren Southern.
TERFs are literal embodiment of horseshoe theory is in works.
god I should not have read the comments. At least I can take comfort in knowing that TERFs are the only radical subsection of the left that is virtually unanimously and enthusiastically rejected by the rest. ANTIFA is far more popular, for reference.
