I hope there is a lot more original weapons they aren't showing yet becauase a handful of those weapons were copy-pasted straight from Far Cry 3. Even if it's just side-grades, having a bunch of different guns to use and customize is fun. Speaking of which they seriously need to allow more attachments, especially on starting guns. In Far Cry 3 you couldn't add any attachments to the first few guns you find, but for some reason guns later in the game can have all kinds of scopes and stuff. Thank god there was mods to add attachments to all guns.
Far Cry has always done gunplay right, even if it was a bit quirky in Far Cry 3 and frustrating in FC2.
MG42. That's all they had to say.
Far Cry has always done gunplay right, even if it was a bit quirky in Far Cry 3 and frustrating in FC2.
The cover system in FC3 was super awesome. You could push yourself next to any object/surface and peak out from it. That and the cool reloads and animations in general made the gunplay great in FC3. In Far Cry 2 they had this weird recoil system where once you stopped shooting your view slid back down automatically (weird to explain) and it kinda ruined the experience on PC. The variety of guns was cool though and the weapon jamming system was interesting and I personally liked it.
MG42 GARAND... or is it an M14? SCORPION AAAAAAAAAAAA
Glad the mortar is making a comeback. Combined with the vertical level design, it should be even better.
MG42. That's all they had to say.
Let's add to that. MG42 on the back of an Elephant. [editline]2nd October 2014[/editline] So far this game is looking ok. Hopefully less Alice in Wonderland references, or annoying rich white people.
Wait, did they just straight up recycle some of those weapon models?
Wait, did they just straight up recycle some of those weapon models?
Yes, but I don't think there is anything wrong with that. The games feature similar art-style choices and graphical detail, if you already have a great AK47 model, there is no reason to completely make a new one, that time and money could be spent on something else.

So that should theoretically increase the arsenal... say, double it up? All the old ones that were already at hand and then there's plenty of spare resources to make extra ones. Or are you seriously suggesting that high-profile game developers are unable to manage their resources properly? "How can we possibly make this awesome environment if we have to create all those guns" is not a thing any established dev team with a publisher like Ubisoft should have to ask themselves and "I've got it, lets just use all the old guns again and we will free up enough resources to realize our vision of this awesome game" should not be the solution they come up with. This is not an indie devs first attempt at making a sequel and those people are not incompetent. No, this sounds more like the typical bright ideas producers come up with. "What do you mean, you need modelling resources? Just recycle the old assets, those people won't care"

"What do you mean, you need modelling resources? Just recycle the old assets, those people won't care"
Isn't this exactly what managing resources properly is? If I make a game sequel that uses a fairly similar art-style and level of fidelity and I wanted the same gun in my game as I had in the one before it, I would just re-use it. Notice how FC3 uses a different AK47 model from FC2. This is because the art-style and level of fidelity were different, in FC4 it is far more closer. There is literally no reason to make another AK47 model if the one you already did a year ago is perfect and would fit like a glove. The amount of time and effort you tell a modeller to use to make a new AK47, could have been used to make an entirely new gun all together. Its a cost and time saving technique and there is no shame nor harm in it. Companies do it all the time for tons of things, not just game models. I'm not going to debate if producers or anyone else had a hand in it, but simply explaining why its an acceptable use of their own resources.

Ahh, kukri goodness.
Isn't this exactly what managing resources properly is?
From a production standpoint, yes. From a creative standpoint, no. If saving resources and maximizing profit is a priority so great that you cut costs with the guns, arguably a main aspect of a shooting game, then profit is a pretty, PRETTY high priority in the production of a game. Higher than core aspects of the game itself. It's a mindset that can ruin creative works and so I always have a critical standpoint when it comes to that. Efficiency is one thing, you also have to uphold certain standards and at some point, people are going to feel ripped off. It's not a tightrope I'd want to walk just to squeeze a few work hours out of a production. Because if i'm going to start a SHOOTER project, it's kind of unsettling if my first thought is towards how to get around having to model guns. If you want to safe time and money more than you want to make shooters for a shooting game than you have your priorities wrong. At least for the part where you make the best possible product. The profit part works very good that way. One is trying to succeed at making a good game that sells because it can hold its own weight, the other is finding the sweet spot where I can cut as much as possible away from a game that I can still sell it at the full price without evoking the feeling of being ripped off in people. But I'm derailing a bit here. I'm not saying that I'm that bothered by how I spied a few old models in the trailer. I'm just ranting about the mindset behind decisions like that and how destructive they CAN be. I'm not implying that I specifically dislike far cry for that exact reason and I don't conclude that the game will be bad. The game is propably alright. I'm just criticizing the general mindset of some people in the industry and the implications that go with it
Why are you talking about general mindset of games in a FC4 thread if it isn't relevant to FC4?
OK, the least they could have done is change up a few of the weapons from FC3 a bit. A bunch of those look like they even kept the same exact model too.
MG42 GARAND... or is it an M14? SCORPION AAAAAAAAAAAA
M1a SOCOM 16 (modified semi-auto M14), same as in FC3. A few of these are straight up copied over, but there's a couple new ones and it looks like those will be pretty interesting, so as long as there's more to this game than just guns I'll be okay with it.
The guns in FC3 were fine so I really dont mind them recycling them. The map and animals have me interested as fuck though

I love using scopeless bolt actions in games, I hope they have a lot of those.
why does everyone dislike fc3 it was one of my most favorite games ever
I really liked FC3's gun play. Not so much FC2 or 1's though. I mean in 1 it served its purpose, in 2 it was at times detrimental. The one thing that annoyed me about FC3's guns is the fucking weird sights like the diamond one for the MP5 and the long-range scope for the assault rifles being completely whacked. The blue one. I also didn't like the fact that there was almost no variety in attachments for the first few guns. The FAMAS was also kinda shit and I never had a reason to use the AK since I could afford the SG553 almost right away. Regardless, gunplay in that game was great.
i never liked the ak-47 in far cry 3, if they're bringing it back for fc4 i'll be disappoint
I actually found the gunplay in fc3 quite underwhelming :v:
If they have the mortar coming back, there better be a mission like the one in FC2 where you had to navigate through some shithole town area with mortars firing at you.
