For a while I've been getting a message from a website blocking software every time I use youtube. It says that it's blocking "i.ytimg.com:443" and as a result it seems to inconsistently block youtube thumb nails. There are times when the thumbnails come through just fine.
I've googled this thing but I can't seem to find the answers I need. What exactly is i.ytimg.com:443? Should I unblock it, or am I better off without it?
ytimg = youtube images server
It's just a domain name for the YouTube content servers that supply thumbnails and the like. 443 is the standard port for HTTPS connections (80 is standard HTTP).
If you're going to use YouTube, you might as well unblock what it expects to work.

Ok just to be certain: It won't try to access anything on my computer, it's just a supplier?
It can't "access anything on your computer" any more than any other part of YouTube can punch through your browser and start screwing with your hard drive.
It's just a webserver that feeds you thumbnails. If you trust YouTube, this is part of YouTube.
Thanks, this will be useful.
The YouTube Thumbnails Server is where they display previews of videos on an image.
