In a bizarre new trend in certain circles, people are snorting chocolate powder through their noses with the aid of a machine. But some experts say the practice may be dangerous and that people should not snort any type of powder.
The man behind the "chocolate shooter" is Belgian chocolatier Dominique Persoone. His company, The Chocolate Line, makes a device that is basically a tiny catapult, with two small, spring-loaded spoons that fling cocoa powder into the nostrils.
Before long, Persoone said, "everybody wanted to have that machine." In the 10 years since that time, his company has sold more than 25,000 of the devices to people all over the world, he said.
Still, some experts say the unusual practice is risky. "Snorting chocolate powder is not safe, because the powder is perceived by the nose as a foreign toxic substance," said Dr. Jordan Josephson, an ear, nose and throat and sinus specialist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.
I like snorting ghost pepper powder
"Fling cocoa powder into the nostrils"
Who thought this is a good idea.
I have seen the future, and everybody is sneezing constantly.
beats smoking it, i guess
why the hell would you do that
you don't even get a kick out of it, or taste it (which is mostly the purpose of chocolate), and it'll probably hurt like a bitch...
I have to wonder if these aren't just being purchased by cocaine users under the pretense of wanting to fling chocolate powder into their nostrils.

Chocolate is aromatic. Presumably, it smells like opening a jar of cocoa powder.
Now this raises the question of what else people tried to snort, I'm positive there must be someone who snorted dried faeces.

I remember I used to have a friend who would snort pixie sticks and powdered caffeine...
I doubt they were primarily bought for usage with chocolate.
if ppl can snort ground coffee why not chocolate?
I've heard of smoking cocopuffs, not snorting them.
chocolate snorting catapult sounds like random word vomit and yet here we are
The guy who invented that is equal parts retarded and genius, he created demand and then supplied, but presumably would have made more money just selling chocolate "snorting powder" (milkshake mix.)

Pixie sticks, so fucking painful, so stupid.
Friend did this a while back as a dare. On the way home he was coughing and sneezing brown it was great :V
Like Van-man said, this seems similar to the situation in some U.S. head shops where they have to label bongs as "tobacco water pipes." Most people buying these things probably aren't using them for chocolate powder.

Actually most of what you can taste is due to your olfactory senses.

Stupid misconception that while somewhat right doesn't apply at all in something like this
I heard that chocolate can actually be hallocinogenic if taken in high doses, more specifically cocoa
im a hardcore choco lover but this is too much
This isn't a new invention or anything, these things have been around since the 1800's for snorting powdered tobacco. Some dude just decided to market it for chocolate powder for some reason.

When you snort something it slides down the back of your throat after its passed through the sinuses and you can taste it then.
Also, interesting to note, chocolate contains a compound known as Phenethylamine (PEA), which is normally found as a neurotransmitter in the blood in small amounts. Because the body regulates how much PEA is in your blood at any given time by the MAO-B enzyme, any excess PEA like that which you would ingest through chocolate, is metabolized the moment it gets into the bloodstream. However if you inhibit the MAO-B enzyme with something like Hordenine, a very common MAO-B inhibitor, ingesting PEA acts as a fairly powerful stimulant. You can also do this by just ingesting more PEA than the MAO-B enzyme can metabolize, but I wouldn't recommend you attempt either of these.
Maybe that's why people are snorting it? You'd have to snort a lot of chocolate to get an active dose of PEA without an MAO-B inhibitor but I wouldn't be that surprised if it were possible. Fucking gross as shit though.
I heard that chocolate can actually be hallocinogenic if taken in high doses, more specifically cocoa
It's not hallucinogenic, it's more like drinking too much coffee.
Snot-cocoa doesn't sound too good, you need to add booger-sugar to sweeten it.
I'm in love with the coco
A rather strange way to sell cocaine paraphernalia. What's worse is that people actually probably tried to use it for chocolate powder.
I bet you a good chunk of people bought the device for cocaine, no snorting required.

Reminds me as a child where we tried snorting concentrated grape sugar bricks, which was surprisingly effective.
Not sure if it was just the adrenaline doe'.
As long as they don't snort Halo Reach DVDs up their noses

To be fair, coca and cocoa are only one letter away, I can see how someone can get confused :v:
beats smoking it, i guess
Is such a thing possible?

This reminded me of how in elementary, we used to snort fun dip and/or pixie stix. Anyone else?
I'm in love with the choco
