Father of dead driver blames Tesla’s acceleration for his daughter’s death
Last year, we reported on a tragic accident in a Tesla Model S in Indianapolis. The crash led to the death of Kevin McCarthy, the owner of the Model S and a passenger at the time of the accident since it was driven by her employee, Casey Speckman, who also died in the crash.
Even though it happened last November, the accident is coming back into the news as the police revealed that both Speckman and McCarthy were intoxicated at the time of the accident. Despite the revelation, the father of the driver is blaming the death of his daughter on Tesla – going as far as saying that “had she been in another vehicle she would have been alive”.
...
The police report released last week highlighted the fact Casey Speckman’s blood-alcohol level tested at 0.21 percent – or almost 3 times the allowed limit. McCarthy also tested above the limit at 0.17 percent.

Do you only post articles that fit your avatar's expression? Because that's mine right now.
What is it with people blaming Tesla for their accidents?
Got to love that 'it's always someone ELSE's fault' mentality we have going this day and age
It really seems like everyone's trying to smear Tesla lately. Of course it had to be the car, not the fact that they were both twice over the legal limit.
Shitty that this happened.
Not surprising that the parents would let their anger get the best of them and go after the company, though. Has to be shitty to know that your kid was killee by such a poor decision, I can see why they don't want to come to terms with that, subconsciously or no.
Completely unreasonable to blame anyone but the driver, though.
Only saving grace for the driver:
Surveillance camera footage captured the seconds before the crash, which showed that Speckman might have tried to maneuver around a vehicle traveling on the wrong side of the road.
Two idiotic drivers meeting in these conditions was bound to end poorly.
“This is a vehicle that travels from 0 to 60 in 3.1 seconds. She’s clearly having to swerve to miss a vehicle going the wrong way on a one-way street. If her foot should happen to hit the accelerator, it’s like a rocket ship. I don’t know why they have to make a car that does that.”
Yeah, why don't we make cars safer for drunk drivers. Nothing wrong there.
The father has to either be paid by those anti Tesla people that seem to have sprung up, or he is just a massive asshole. Or both

I think he's probably just a grieving parent looking to give a reason to his daughter's death.

The mental gymnastics this guy must be pulling to think it's tesla's fault for making a car that doesn't take 6 months to accelerate.
this """logic""" makes sense if ALL teslas accelerated at 3 seconds. no one forced her to buy the fast version of that car.
This is a tragic event, yes. But I fail to see how Tesla is responsible for this. If she was three times over the legal limit for alcohol consumption, she would have gotten into a crash regardless of the acceleration of an electric. Only way she wouldn't have is extreme luck.

a suspiciously large volume of anti-tesla news has come out in the past week
I am interested in what speed they was going.. the front drive unit is completely detached from the car:

I'm waiting for a wicked player tier post
seriously can we not play the blame game
Can I also sue the company that made my bike because it got stolen? Totally makes sense to me.
I know a lot of people are gonna be really harsh on the Dad but he's grieving, he's probably just trying to find someone to blame for it, there's no need to go so hard on the poor guy.
Speckman might have tried to maneuver around a vehicle traveling on the wrong side of the road.
Wouldn't the person driving on the wrong side of the road be the most logical person to blame in all of this?

I know, but from what I've read he's kind of a shitty parent. It feels like he took no responsibility beforehand to prevent this.

Hah, no. He deserves the scrutiny, it's been months since the wreck and he is still having a shit fit over Tesla for no reason.
It's like suing Glade because someone offed themselves in their car via carbon monoxide poisoning and the damn freshener was the thing that smelled the most.

He should own up and face reality.

There's grieving and there's being this goddamn irrational.
There's no reason to get in arms about the father, he's greiving and will obviously try to blame someone for her death, instead of accepting that there's noone to blame and that her death was for none.
Blame the media for exposing them for sweet tesla dissing bux.

Knowing the cost of a Tesla, and what sort of vehicles you can get for that price, I'm willing to bet no.

If the incident had just happened, sure, but this happened in November. He could have talked about the dangers of drunk driving, but no, he chose to go against Tesla.

The model S is probably a very safe if not the safest vehicle around.
Also, doesn't it not accelerate that much without launch control?

Launch control doesn't make that much of a difference. This guy didn't use launch control:

Not many people are equipped to deal with saying "yeah she was a drunk cunt, lad had what was coming to her". This isn't a thing people do consciously, he'll probably keep trying to find ways to blame the car rather than his daughter, it's a dumb way to find comfort but in this situation people take whatever they can get.
[editline]12th February 2017[/editline]
Either that or he's trying to get easy bux, in which case he'd be an asshat.

I'm involuntarily neutral. Can't afford one and can't support the man in any large way.

Then what is launch control for?
