• "Has The iPhone Peaked?" Apple’s iPhone 4s Seen Outselling iPhone 5
Apple (AAPL) investors received more cause for alarm late Thursday evening as new research suggested consumer interest in Apple’s popular iPhone lineup may have peaked. Shares of Apple were down more than 25% last month from a September high of $705.07 as investors began to panic about Apple’s future. The stock has bounced back slightly since late November, however a new report questioning Apple’s biggest money-earner could sour investor sentiment yet again. UBS analyst Steve Milunovich trimmed his estimates for Apple’s fiscal 2013 and fiscal 2014 years on Thursday evening. He also dropped his price target on Apple shares to $700 from an earlier target of $780. The analyst trimmed his iPhone sales estimates by 5 million units this fiscal year, and iPad sales estimates were cut by 2 million units. But the most alarming part of his note comes in the form of an observation from his supply chain sources. “Some of our Chinese sources do not expect the iPhone 5 to do as well as the iPhone 4S,” Millunovich wrote. The UBS analyst sees iPhone production dropping to 25 million units in the first calendar quarter next year, which doesn’t bode well at all for June-quarter sales. Apple could get an early pick-up in 2013, however, as earlier reports suggest Apple might launch a refreshed iPhone 5S next summer. Milunovich now sees Apple earning $47 per share in fiscal 2013, down from his earlier estimate of $51.50, and he believes fiscal 2014 earnings will total $55.85 per share, down from $62. Shares of Apple were trading down more than 3% at $511.76 during Friday morning’s session.
http://bgr.com/2012/12/14/iphone-5-sales-iphone-4s/
Yeah, I think it has topped, but it's gonna take a long while before it goes down. The SGSIII actually outsold the iPhone 5 in the UK, that's fairly impressive.
I blame the new connector.
maybe if they'd actually given it some new features to warrant a new version it might be more attractive the iphone 5 is just the 4s but with a taller screen and slightly faster hardware, and that's pretty much all that's new ios6 doesn't count because the 4s got that anyway
I feel Apple has died somewhat since Steve Jobs passed and his Bodhisattva ways simply aren't showing in the products anymore.
I blame the new connector.
Moving to yet another proprietary one was a stupid move in my opinion. Sure, Apple likes to have a whole ecosystem for itself, but making a gigantic ecosystem completely obsolete is just a stupid decision no matter who you are. And the iPhone 5 isn't "a tiny bit" faster, it's actually quite a lot faster. The SoC as a whole is better than that of the SGSIII, really, though it very much depends on the workload.
I find the new connector better than the previous, but it's terrible that it's proprietary.
The iPhone 5 looks fucking ugly, uses a different connector, doesn't bring much new to the table except for the fact that it's a tiny bit faster and it's more expensive. Why the fuck would you buy an iPhone 5 instead of an iPhone 4/4S?

Not surprised, the 4S isn't that different from the 5 and in some places less than half the price. If you want an iPhone you could argue that it's a better solution to save a bit. Just did a quick search and apparently you could get the 4S as low as $47 with a 2-year contract. But like Tea said, if the 5 were some drastic change over the 4S it might otherwise be worth it.

http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2010/08/europe-univeral-phone-charger/all/1
...That annoyance will end next year, for Europeans at least. Thanks to the efforts of the European Commission, most cellphones sold in Europe will have a one-size-fits-all charger starting in 2011. So far, 10 major cellphone makers, including Apple, Motorola, Samsung and Research In Motion, have signed on to the agreement.
Which Apple later fixed, by creating... another expensive adapter. http://www.imore.com/europe-getting-lightning-micro-usb-adapter
But what of CENELEC, ETSI, and other acronyms? Apple in Europe has a typically Apple-for-Europe solution: a Lightning-to-Micro USB adapter. It's certainly the smaller of the Lightning adapters made available, and it merely has the male end of the Lightning connector on one end, ready to plug into your iPhone 5, new iPod Touch, or new iPod Nano, and a female Micro USB port on the other, ready to accept your Micro USB cable for your charging and syncing needs.

I feel Apple has died somewhat since Steve Jobs passed and his Bodhisattva ways simply aren't showing in the products anymore.
Used to be about new products. Now its about the sequels of said products and lawsuits.

General speed of things like menus are also quite a bit faster. Plus the screen size helps a lot (but IMO it looks slightly unnaturally long).
The general consensus is that the new iPhone is far more attractive than the previous.
I can honestly say I haven't heard a single person say the iPhone 5 looks better than the iPhone 4.
It's not that the iPhone isn't getting better, it's just that I'm not interested in paying £529 for the base model (and up to £700 for the high end model) of a phone that's going to be replaced and made redundant the next year.
They broke their ~ecosystem~ which is one of the main selling points of the phone by making a new connector, and other than that it's a slightly faster and bigger iPhone 4. People have little reason to buy it.

People are realizing they're paying more for inferior hardware and software.
and come on you give apple shit for changing stuff (iphone 5) and you give apple shit for not changing stuff (iphone 4s) make up your minds
People are realizing they're paying more for inferior hardware and software.
When the iPhone 5 came out it was the most powerful mobile device (including tablets) out.
When the iPhone 5 came out it was the most powerful mobile device (including tablets) out.
I'd certainly hope so. Apple has one job and that is to optimize their proprietary hardware for their proprietary software. I've seen Android running in cars and refrigerators. It's like the Linux of smartphones, got a 10 year old piece of hardware with enough storage? You can run it. If the app is not updated for the iPhone 5, there is a black bar similar to watching a widescreen movie on a television with a 4:3 aspect ratio.
there's also the new connector, new design, lte support, better guts and ios is designed differently from android, it's not optimized for automatic screen dimension scaling like android
The new connector which is slightly better than MicroUSB, the ugly back plate, LTE battery drain and better hardware. Yeah, it's a nice upgrade but the software is seriously lacking. I mean dozens upon dozens of features are missing and a lot of people are getting bored with the same user interface on pretty much the same hardware. The people want something different and it doesn't look like Apple is going to cave in.
I feel Apple has died somewhat since Steve Jobs passed and his Bodhisattva ways simply aren't showing in the products anymore.
His reality distortion generator had enough remaining fuel to hold out another year however now that it's died Apple has to realize that you can't run a company purely on bleeding edge phones without problems. There's also that potential problem with market saturation. Eventually the phone will get into the hands of those who don't upgrade very year and at which point your rotation dwindles to a few million who are still Apple die-hards. I predict 1986 where you saw Apple's successful starting line products age and their new products were not attracting the customers they were expecting.

Hello Kaabii. Nice to see you again.
iPhone 4S actually has a lot of the same features the iPhone 5 has, software wise Panorama, passbook, maps whatever same things, you just get a bigger screen, new connector, and some improvements under the hood Android is gaining some ground, windows phone is also starting to rise and I feel as if the iPhone is dropping a bit and if apple doesn't do something revolutionary soon this could turn out to be an interesting next year.
