Wow, 1.9mm thinner.
Also I have to wonder if there's some kind of catch to Mavericks being free. I mean, this IS Apple we're talking about.

No Jobs? Genuinely asking that, not implying, I wouldn't know..

That's why most are waiting a bit to update, just to see what the catch is.

It brings it into line with iOS. You don't pay $20 to update your phone.. why should you pay $20 to update your Mac.
They're in a position to do this because they make money on the hardware. It seems like it would be better to have everyone on the latest version too - in terms of support and stuff.

That's honestly one thing that's always boggled me.
Since their profit margin on hardware is massive (and also the source of their immensely big pricetags) then why were is necessary to charge extra for software too?
I'd expect a free blowjob every morning if I bought anything from Apple at it's normal price.

I remember iOS (2,3, 4?) updates were ~$10-20 on iPod touch devices and free on phones. I was going to ask if they still do that but does apple even have an ipod touch capable of running iOS7?
It's nice to see they're moving away from that though, it's not like apple products are cheap to begin with.
What is up with every tech company and thinner products? I absolutely despise having something like more battery power being traded away in favor of shaving a few atoms off an already uncomfortably thin device.
If I wanted thin I would buy a god damn wheat cracker. I want more power, more tech, and better ergonomics rather than this shit.

Companies ARE increasing battery life with each new devices, except they don't do it through the redundant larger battery approach. It's wiser to make the device consume less power instead.
Thin formfactors are always better because it makes the device lighter and easier to carry around. if you don't like it, you can always slap on a case on it.
New MacOS is called Mavericks. No more cats.
Just save up money and get the best tablet on the market: Surface Pro 2

ugh no thanks I don't want to be paying 2-3x more than an iPad for something that would not have anywhere close to as much battery life and which has a relatively tiny market for tablet apps.

Ability to use desktop apps? And battery life in surface is a whole ton better than this thin piece of paper.

What apps are you desperately missing that's making a Surface such a turn off?

Could've bough a actually useful and powerful notebook or a cheap netbook.
depending on whenever you prefer portability or power & flexibility.

Running desktop apps on 10" screen is not a great experience, the surface is just a bad laptop and a tablet with no apps.

My iPod touch 2g was a $15 update to iOS3 but i think they stopped doing it because it was very unpopular, i bought it tho because i had some spare credit in my iTunes balance
iPod 5th gen can only run iOS7, ever since the iPod 2nd gen, the lifespan of an iPod in iOS is like 1-2 major and that's it, its been a trend since iPod 3rd gen

The Surface is actually pretty damn impressive, and the market for apps is growing rapidly, a lot of companies are jumping on board.

Goddamn fucking shit, Apple.

Something else that I've noticed: The iPads get smaller, and the iPhones get bigger.
[sp]It's happening[/sp]

yeah but why not both
no one ever thought that the ipad wasn't thin enough - that was never a concern for anyone and making it thinner doesn't change the way it's seen or used at all
if you can make your device consume less power AND keep the same battery size then surely that's better than reducing power consumption and making the battery smaller?
