A pool at a disused Derbyshire quarry, known locally as the Blue Lagoon, has been dyed black in a bid to deter people from swimming in it.
Despite the water at the quarry at Harpur Hill, near Buxton, having a pH level of 11.3 dozens of people still swim there.
...
Swimmers are also warned the water contains rubbish and dead animals.
...
Local business owner Rachel Thomas said she thought changing the colour of the quarry water had made a difference.
"It's not pretty any more," said Ms Thomas.
"They don't think they're on holiday in the Bahamas any more, they know they're in Harpur Hill.
Seeing the deep blackness of the water, I keep expecting a swan to swim on it and some bloke to attempt killing said swan.
Oh, and here's a nice picture of what it used to look like:

That place is basic as all hell and people still swam in it?
That place is basic as all hell and people still swam in it?
Blue waters have that appeal when you live in a country where the average water colour is brown and grey.
That place is basic as all hell and people still swam in it?
I guess they figured pretty things can't harm them. The burning sensation across their body after exiting surely disabused them of that notion.
now rename it Black Lagoon and throw a monstrous sea creature in there
To be honest if there was clear blue pond like that near and i didn't know of it's toxicity I'd swim in it
Why isn't there any fences or signs saying "hey what's up, so this water is toxic as fuck do try to avoid going near it"

Read the article
There are signs up
Signs put up by the council last year around the
previously bright blue water - which gets it colour from
the caustic chemicals in the quarry stone - warn people
it could cause skin irritations and stomach problems.
The signs also state there are vehicles, rubbish and dead
animals in the water.
Then we are just witnessing natural selection
Now it's Goo Lagoon.
Didn't someone in the previous topic suggest doing exactly this?
Does look really nice though, I can see why people would want to swim in it.
Last time I saw water like that was when I was living in Oahu.
Here's what it looks like now if anyone is curious.

Should make it lime, luminous glowing green, if it's really that dangerous.

It could pass as a deep body of water. Red would have been the call

Looks like a fairly typical canal now and people swim in that water all the time.

And here comes my incredibly specific phobia of things like this.
Looks like a fairly typical canal now and people swim in that water all the time.
People swim in canals? I've seen dogs but never people
I live about 20mins from it, used to hang there alot :(
What a basic ditch

Yeah, mate of mine nearly died because the stupid bastard dove into a lock, but didnt notice the lock was down (i.e at its lowest water level) and cracked his head on the bottom.

Is an "empty/down" lock, for those that dont know.
now rename it Black Lagoon and throw a monstrous sea creature in there
You think people from Derbyshire don't already make up that requirement? :v:
now rename it Black Lagoon and throw a monstrous sea creature in there
Now I know the girls from Derbyshire are pretty foul but chucking them in a pool is a bit far.

fucks sake mips you dont even live here :(
They should throw a bunch of mannequins in there, to make it look like there's a bunch of dead bodies floating around.
I always see these when flying on airplanes and I always wondered what they were and why the water was of such a bright blue, guess I've been enlightened.

Or make it into an anime.
It's looks like some kind of SCP now.

I'm pretty sure all English girls are like that.
Then again, Scottish girls aren't all much better.
