Put on your Sunday clothes because an Arizona lawmaker wants to make church mandatory. The legislature’s debate to expand a gun owner's right to carry took a pious turn when state Sen. Sylvia Allen, R-Snowflake, suggested the real problem behind gun violence was corrupted souls.
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/arizona-lawmaker-church-attendance-mandatory-article-1.2164602
if i was forced to go to church i probably would get involved in gun crimes
What a whackjob... What happened to "don't mix religion with state" thats... Y'know.. Finely printed in the US Constitution?
Are we locked in a fucking competition to see who's the worse state?
Are we locked in a fucking competition to see who's the worse state?
Arizona has competition?
So is spring just the timer of year when all the mongo politicians come out of the wood work with their weird ideas, like "execute all the gays with firing squads," and shit like this?
I thought the constitution clearly has limits against this.. I wish in order to have anything to do with politics, you'd have to know what the fuck the Constitution is about/what the Bill of Rights are. Cause if she knew, she would know this would get shot down in a heartbeat.
Maybe she thinks "freedom of religion" means you get to pick what church you go to, not whether to go or not
Arizona has competition?
florida hasn't broken off yet so yeah [editline]27th March 2015[/editline]
Maybe she thinks "freedom of religion" means you get to pick what church you go to, not whether to go or not
no joke i think people legitimately think that is what freedom of religion means considering i've seen people say "freedom of religion not freedom from religion" when trying to push religious shit into politics
Jesus would probably support gun control so maybe she's onto something.
Her heart's in the right place, at least. I can sympathize with the why of her statements. I live in an area where I feel perfectly safe without carrying a piece, and in fact have never actually carried a piece except once when I bought my Mosin and then drove home with it. It's lovely not feeling like I need to be armed to be safe and I can see no reason to deny that to anyone else. And I can give her half a point of credit for not forcing a specific religion. But her brain's on vacation. Forcing religion on the state is not the way to go. Unconstitutional as all hell, and easily loopholed with churches that pop up simply as a place for athiests to chill and hang out.
Arizona has competition?
It's got a long way to go before it gets worse than Mississippi and Alabama.
don't forget about michigan!
It's got a long way to go before it gets worse than Mississippi and Alabama.
Mississippi isn't this bad. At least on the coast, and up north, it's pretty tame in terms of religion. I'd say Arizona is as bad as both Mississippi and Alabama.
Arizona has competition?
Utah
Jesus would probably support gun control so maybe she's onto something.
Jesus is the ultimate conservative Jesus Christ 2016
sensationalist bullshit right before his statement, she said something along the lines of "this would never be constitutionally okay, but..." its not some fucked up plan for civil reform, rather an offside remark
Getting elected to state senate barely requires the ability to fog a mirror. Statehouses all over the country are full of people this dumb...and dumber.
Jesus would probably support gun control so maybe she's onto something.
People often bring up a Bible quote from Jesus telling people that "If they have no sword, they should sell their cloak and buy one" to refute that, and claim that Jesus would oppose gun control.
People often bring up a Bible quote from Jesus telling people that "If they have no sword, they should sell their cloak and buy one" to refute that, and claim that Jesus would oppose gun control.
There's the whole turning the other cheek thing though, which is definitely a contradiction. Jesus is clearly a flip-flopper.
There's the whole turning the other cheek thing though, which is definitely a contradiction. Jesus is clearly a flip-flopper.
"If a man shoots you in your cheek, present him the other. Then pull your gun out and shoot him in the balls. Such is the will of the lord."
People often bring up a Bible quote from Jesus telling people that "If they have no sword, they should sell their cloak and buy one" to refute that, and claim that Jesus would oppose gun control.
Just did a little bit of reading, and the common counterpoint to the "Jesus told people to buy swords" argument is that he wanted to have the swords when he was arrested to make it look like him and his disciples were criminals in order to fulfill a very specific Old Testament prophecy. So I guess that makes sense. Maybe.
I think these modern tea bagger Republicans would find Jesus too liberal. They find the pope too liberal.
The warehouse I work in is open on Sunday. Should we shut down and stop shipping food out to all our customers so we stop murdering people?
*clears throat* *thumbs constitutional law book* "congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"
“We are slowly eroding religion at every opportunity that we have. We should probably be debating a bill requiring every American to attend a church of their choice on Sunday to see if we can get back to having a moral rebirth,” Allen added.
RELIGION IS NOT BEING ERODED BY THE STATE, STOP INSISTING IT IS! ok thats all [editline]28th March 2015[/editline]
There's the whole turning the other cheek thing though, which is definitely a contradiction. Jesus is clearly a flip-flopper.
almost as if the two instances were written from two separate view points...

Apparently they think that lack of religion = lack of morals/ethics.
You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink. Even if this does pass, it will solve nothing.
