Okay, basically, I am thinking of upgrading my computer with this 4850:

(It's Australian prices, just in case it seems like a lot of money.)
What I need clarification on is whether or not I will require any other new hardware to go with it. I have looked into it and from what I can see I don't need anything new to go along with it. Here are my specs:
Mobo
Gigabyte S-Series Motherboard. GA-M56S-S3.
4 SATA 3Gb/s connectors
1 PCI Express x 16 slot
2 PCI Express x 1 slots
4 PCI slots
CPU
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+
3.01GHz
I have 2GB of RAM and my current GPU is a Radeon 2600XT.
you're fine.
You're fine, more Ram wouldn't hurt though.
Well think about a processor upgrade somewhere near the future

2GBs is fine.
2GBs is fine.
But to own 4gb is better!
Soi it wouldn't hurt to get +2gb of ram.
You'll be fine.
I'll probably end up getting the RAM as well.
Although unless I can get a new processor without getting a new motherboard I doubt I will get one. I don't have unlimited funds :frown:
I know very little about the hardware aspect of computers, so could someone tell me; (Probably a stupid question and I think I know the answer already) Seeing as I already have 2GB of RAM, is it necessary to buy a separate 4GB of RAM or can I get another 2GB?
no you can get another 2gb, but make sure its the same type
btw, its best to get 4gb of the same stuff
Okay then. Seeing as the DDR type of the GPU is separate from the type of the mobo, is it safe to assume that a mobo that uses DDR2 will work with RAM that uses DDR3?

no.
ddr2 mobo goes with ddr2 ram.
MoBos don't have RAM, it's just specifying what type of RAM it can use
And VRAM (which is what's on graphics cards) is completely separate
Do ddr3 motherboards allow ddr2 ram, or are there just some that allow both?
There are some that allow both, but that's a gimmick. The only ones that have that are the absolutely horrid ECS and JetWay motherboards.
So this RAM should work with my mobo?

yes
Awesome. Now I know what my next upgrade is.
Will this network card work with my computer?

Yes, any PCI slot card should work fine with your system
What is the rated wattage of your Power Supply? You'll need around 500 watts (OEM) or 400-450 watts (quality brand) to run that setup with the 4850.
