Atheists verse Religion
Are we really better than them?
In the past several years, the debate grows larger and heavier. Why does it have to? Ideological and theological debate is discussing opinions and beliefs which will differ. With atheism, we aren't supposed to be theological. We're supposed to be human, living our lives through science and understanding. Not make-believe and fictional story books.
Religion did teach us a few morals, that we still abide to do this day. Such as frowning down upon pedophilia, raping, murdering and stealing. We also are also taught to deal with others with respect and dignity (however, most of us neglect to use that).
Atheism taught us that what life is, is what it is. No small print and afterlife imaginations. It taught us to be understanding and tolerant. But we patronize, and be better. We live life, and thats what we do. We don't live it with the constant binds and the small roaming range.
While us atheists are living life to the fullest without the bounds of an omnipotent entity, the religious are preaching their false words. With intolerance and hate, with lies and deceit. Still claiming lives, still jailing them behind a story book. But this is their life, and they chose to live it with the preach of god. Its their opinion and the way they want to live their lives. Even their radical cousins, killing because an indifference in their religious culture, and difference of opinions regarding their god. This is of their choice to live in a world confined with religion.
Just by that paragraph alone, we are greater than them in our minds. Since we don't live with those constraints and disbeliefs. However, we aren't in a way. We're becoming radical and aggressive. We're starting to turn into a religion (sort of speak). I see it in our very own members here in facepunch. We're becoming intolerant of the Christians and others. I saw it, when they asked for their own subforum. To preach about their own opinions in private. The ones I assume have different belief, said it would be a trolling haven. Or simply said no. Why should they be denied their own right of opinion, because we share a different belief system then them? For the trolling, the ones who give up essential liberty for a sense of security deserve neither. Us denying the rights of them because it would be a land for trolling and theological debate, we should be denied the other. Its a part of being a greater human, a better being. It comes with understanding and tolerance, we are supposed to be better after all.
Its come to my understanding that most of our members don't understand what it is to be an atheist. It's not supposed to be of radical persuasion and constant aggression. Denying them rights, freedoms and liberty is doing the opposite of what our goal is supposed to be.
This is not supposed to be a religion vs atheism debate. Do that else where, this is to point out my thoughts of the flaws that are being rather opaque at the moment.
"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?"

This won't turn out good.
This isn't about religion per-say. Its about how atheists (lack of religion) have became more radical and less understanding on their cousins who practice religion.
Yes.
What? It's a simple question.
Are any of you fucking reading the post?
No beliefs, disbeliefs, races, sex, fetish, sexual orientation, social status, etc. can make you better than someone else. They can just make believe you're better than someone else.

You are absolutely right.
As a buddhist i believe in the peaceful coexistence of humans, radical atheism is downright hateful towards religious people.

What do you mean only "becoming" intolerant. I've seen nothing but cool kiddos (on FP for starters) hiding their rebellious anti-Christianity against mommy and daddy by saying they're atheist. There's a fucking difference between choosing to not believe and jamming it sideways down someone's throat.
It's not a factor that I would use to call myself better than someone else.
God is not real, but a figure for peoples' imaginations to give a sort of "hope" and "meaning" to life.
End of story.

Atheists have come out of the closet. Atheism is no longer a taboo, and atheists are speaking out against irrationality.
-snip-
Im not atheist, but i don't believe in what they churches say. i believe they use people low in faith for their own good. plus Catholicism is a load of shit. every fucking week i have to listen to all their shit they are praising on. And they always ask for money. Last week a cult like knights came in and said in the same paragraph, "We are the largest community (Cult) in the state." then, "We need money to finance our community." They do this every fucking week with a different part of the church asking for money.

Some, the rest are pushing it onto others. If they want to praise a god, then so let them.
Atheism can be considered a Religion!

If just all they did was praise a god. They're deliberately spreading pseudoscience (creationism and intelligent design), they're against abortion and homosexuality and want to ban important scientific research (stem cells).
And I'm not even talking about the philosophical and theological reasons why their god is a douchebag and shouldn't be worshipped.

In the same way not collecting stamps can be considered a hobby.
I never expected such a serious thread from Richard Simmons.
But, of course radical atheists are intolerant, so are fundamentalist christians.
It's a two-sided blade, however, it's nothing to post about.
In my mind, the militant atheists are just as bad as the fundie Christians.
I don't care about your philosophical outlook now get out of my face.
You are generalizing people whose only common factor is not believing in a higher power. You really can't do that effectively.
What you see as atheism isn't important. There is no such thing as a "true" atheist, because there isn't anything you can divide on the matter.
As with many people, I consider Religion a crutch. We needed the crutch to move forward in life for a time. But we have grown since then, and have healed enough to no longer need the crutch. Some people want to keep the crutch because it can give them the support they need, and others cast it away in a desire to be the stronger man.

And this.
they're against abortion
I have many atheist friends who are against abortion. Why are you generalizing it like that?

Thats their system, we should work for a common greater goal. With or without them. Im against abortion, but for it for other reasons such as rape/molestation victims. Not an alternative for you getting knocked up with full knowledge on the consequences of unprotected sex. Homosexuality is fine in my book. Step cell research on the other hand, I think is the next step for us to take on the human body. If they don't want it, let them stay in the dust.
And for their views on how we came to be, so be it. We all know they're wrong anyways.

They aren't forming their own opinions on the matter. Some make their opinions based on whether their church agrees with it or not. It's hardly a balanced choice.
