ISTANBUL (AFP) - Turkish nationalists protesting China's treatment of ethnic Uighur Muslims attacked a group of Korean tourists in the heart of Istanbul's old city on Saturday, mistaking them for Chinese nationals.Hundreds of angry protesters marched towards the Topkapi Palace on the banks of the Bosphorus Strait in a show of solidarity with the Turkic Uigurs, who complain of cultural and religious suppression under Chinese rule. Shouting "Allahu Akbar" (God is the Greatest), they attacked some Koreans outside the Topkapi Palace, which is visited by thousands of tourists every day. The tourists were rescued by riot police, who fired tear gas to disperse the attackers, members of the notorious far-right Grey Wolves closely affiliated with Nationalist Movement Party (MHP). Video footage by Dogan news agency showed a distraught Korean tourist telling reporters: "I'm not Chinese, I'm Korean." The incident came amid a row between Ankara and Beijing over Turkish media reports of restrictions on Muslim Uighurs worshipping and fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. Turkey this week summoned the Chinese ambassador to convey its concern over the alleged restrictions. Beijing in turn denied the allegations and demanded that Turkey clarify its statements. A total of 173 Uighurs arrived in Turkey from Thailand on Tuesday where they were being held after fleeing China. Beijing expressed displeasure with Turkey on Friday for accepting the group.
http://www.straitstimes.com/world/europe/turks-protesting-against-china-attack-koreans-by-mistake The fuck
Racist fucks
That sucks.
Shouting "Allahu Akbar"
Ok, if there was a giant group of people coming towards me shouting allahu akbar I would be shitting cinder blocks.
members of the notorious far-right Grey Wolves closely affiliated with Nationalist Movement Party
Of course it had to be a group of racist fucks.
A popular Chinese restaurant in Istanbul was attacked on Wednesday and had its windows smashed by a group protesters who did not realise it was Turkish-owned and that its chef was an ethnic Uighur.
Wow good job there.
Ok, if there was a giant group of people coming towards me shouting allahu akbar I would be shitting cinder blocks.
I would never go anywhere where there was even the potential for a group of people to come towards me shouting allahu akbar. Hell. There are a lot of places you shouldn't go. If you go to visit an African village and one of the hunters doesn't come back that day, the typical response is to want to kill you to appease the spirits. I remember that happening on an episode of River Monsters. Guy went to a small tribal village to ask about a fish. Chieftain's brother didn't come back. They basically held him prisoner and told him if the brother didn't come back they were seriously considering killing him. Shit's terrifying.
Yeah in terms of places I want to visit in my life, theres a big red x through africa, middle east, and lots of south eastern europe.
Wow that's pretty fucking prejudiced there a loads and loads of places that are just fine to visit throughout those regions. You're really gonna cut off an ENTIRE continent? That's pretty ignorant to be honest. People need to stop thinking about Africa like all of it is some hell zone there are many places you could safely visit. Do yourself a favor and don't let your prejudices stop you from experiencing the world. Same goes for middle east and e. europe.
Yeah in terms of places I want to visit in my life, theres a big red x through africa, middle east, and lots of south eastern europe.
You can actually go to places in Africa where you won't be killed by the local witch-doctor.

THE SUNNY STATE OF IOWA!!! Absolutely zero chance of being beheaded by terrorist/militant groups for being white/Western/not-Muslim (or Christian, oh yes I have not forgotten about you, Lord's Resistance Army!) and that's not all! Oh yes, there's more! You see, because Iowa has... [t]http://i.imgur.com/6axFnvR.jpg[/t] HAHAHA!!! CORN. So not only will you not be maimed or killed by backwards. ultra-religious luddites who are big on the "shoot first and don't ask questions later" form of interpersonal conflict resolution, but you can experience the BOUNTIFUL HARVEST OF CORN THAT IOWA HAS TO OFFER EVERY YEAR!!! Wow! What a bonus! I think we can all thank the hard work and dedication of the USDA and other agricultural regulatory agencies for the complete absence of religious and ethnic violence hundreds and hundreds of years old! Big round of applause for the FDA too, aw, heck, I'm sure the Future Farmers of America did their best to keep sectarian violence out of the Iowan countryside! Oh, and did I forget to mention that there hasn't been a single case of kidnapping and multimillion dollar ransom in Iowa for the past hundred years? That's right! You absolutely will not be kidnapped and ransomed off in Iowa by terrorist groups well known for doing exactly that because there aren't any in Iowa! Only corn and cows, so unless they decide to rise up against their human masters then you have nothing to worry about in sunny Iowa! (let's face it, a cow revolution would be swift and brutal in Iowa, they outnumber the people who are likely too fat to resist effectively) Yep, Iowa sure sounds like a great place to visit. Not to live though, oh dear lord don't live there it's so boring. [editline]4th July 2015[/editline] Note: Turkey isn't exactly known for it's rampant problem of Westerners getting killed/kidnapped, but Turkey does not have corn so it is automatically inferior to Iowa.
What the fuck man. Time to never go Turkey (I'm Chinese).
You can actually go to places in Africa where you won't be killed by the local witch-doctor.
Or, you can spend your life savings going to a place you know is safe and won't suddenly turn the best time of your life into the worst time of your life.
Or, you can spend your life savings going to a place you know is safe and won't suddenly turn the best time of your life into the worst time of your life.
Turkey used to be a free and democratic nation that was known for its secularism. On the image they've earned themselves stuff like this is unexpected.
Holy shit, I thought Grey Wolfs were a myth.
Or, you can spend your life savings going to a place you know is safe and won't suddenly turn the best time of your life into the worst time of your life.
You know the only difference between about traveling in a lot of places is the amount of wriggle room you get to be an idiot. If you're in Kyoto Japan, you can stay out at the bar until 3am and then wander back through a few kilometers of various city blocks before you arrive safely home. Try that in Detroit, or for a foreign example, Phnom Phen, and you're likely to get robbed at best, killed at worst. Being cautious, thinking things through (even when you aren't really thinking things through) can keep you safe no matter which country you're in.
this is why we eat turkey and dont give them a voice or a country
If they were Chinese this wouldn't be any better. This would still be fucked up
Yeah in terms of places I want to visit in my life, theres a big red x through africa, middle east, and lots of south eastern europe.
It's a good thing you just stay on your own soil then.
These stuff aren't that commonplace. This in particular is a fuck up of press giving these retards a reason by telling Uighur stories over and over and over, you know, there is raising consciousness and there is fucking provocation. Press was like some Arab press about Palestine on this one. You can perfectly come to SE Europe and Middle East, and be perfectly safe, also have a really good time. There is a reason most of the places in SE Europe and Middle East are extremely popular tourist destinations
There's really not much that would attract me to these places. Its kinds like how nobody wants Qatar to host the world cup because it's an oppressive women hating dictatorship with no alcohol. What woman or soccer fan would ever want to visit Qatar? Similarly, I have no interest in visiting countries whose governments tell women what they cam/cant wear and disallow alcohol. Those places just don't seem all that fun. Similarly, there's really not much ive heard about Africa that makes it sound like a fun tourist destination. I want to visit places with modern thinking and that aren't totally impoverished and run by third world dictators. Asia, Europe, parts of Latin America, Canada, and Australia are all more interesting and exciting than places where they cut off women's clitorises to prevent them from cheating
Well, you did just generalize entire Asia as a "fun tourist destination" when you can find oppression against women in there as well, like the burning of widows, or crushing feet.. But I hear ya.. the world's pretty shit all in all.
