• 5770 or 4890 from 8800GT?

I'm upgrading from an 8800GT, but I can't seem to decide which would be a better choice. This is a gaming computer, and I play at 1920x1200. I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0GHz and 6 gigs of DDR2 800 ram. 5770: +cheaper +less heat/power consumption +Direct X 11 4890: +more powerful I don't think power consumption will matter though, because I have a pretty good 700 watt PSU. I can't go to the 58** series because they're too much money, and I don't really want to spend $300 on a graphics card again like I did with my 8800GT.
Get the 4890 if you want a few extra FPS. Get the 5770 if you want DX11 and Eyefinity support.

I'd go for the 5770, but that's just me.
If you don't overclock (like me) then go with the 4890. If you do get the 5770 and overclock it.
Id say go with the 5770, i always support getting the newer card, Its dx11 and you can possibly crossfire depending on your setup. Also its real easy to overclock your setup for whatever card you get using the ati catalyst center
Get the 4890 if you want a few extra FPS. Get the 5770 if you want DX11 and Eyefinity support.
This And future drivers are bound to improve performance with the 5770
If you Solder the conducter bridge on the 2, you can make a super card. ive done it
I'll probably get the 5770 then. I might end up overclocking it, even though I've never tried doing that with anything before. Thanks for the help everyone!
Is it just me, or did nobody else notice he said he has a 700 watt CPU?
Is it just me, or did nobody else notice he said he has a 700 watt CPU?
I noticed that. But I knew what he meant, and I don't tend to nitpick about that kind of thing.
Haha, oops. That's what I get for posting this at 6 AM.
Futureproof and go for the 5770. Technically, it's kinda not Futureproofing while it is at the same time. W/e.
I noticed that. But I knew what he meant, and I don't tend to nitpick about that kind of thing.
Haha, I'm not trying to be a mean person, it's just I'm usually the last to notice these things and I felt special being the first this time. :v:
5770 ~ DX11 ~ Eyefinity ~ Dirt 2 (STEAM) ~ High overclocking potential Overall, DX11 will be a plus side over the 5-10+ fps a 4890 would give you over a 5770. Dirt 2 should come free with the card ( if you buy on newegg well it depends on what card you purchase ) which is an extremely good game and runs great with any mid-high 5 series card.
Pretty much all of the 5000 series comes with Dirt 2. What's with the bad reading?
Which is why I said runs great with any mid-high 5 series card :|

If it is the asus 5770 you can OC that bitch to higher than a 4890
Which would be better, ASUS, HIS, or Sapphire (or some other brand)? I've read that Sapphire is the most popular, but has shitty customer service. I haven't read much about ASUS, but I've read that HIS has better stock cooling than any of them.
ASUS has great customer service.

i love my 5770, it blows my 9800 out of the water by far also the 5770 uses less power than the 4890 (and it OCs really well)

some XFX and MSI cards come pre-OC'd so thats a plus, but i hear HIS is awsome for reliability.
If you Solder the conducter bridge on the 2, you can make a super card. ive done it
You are a prodigy. Or a genius. Or some combination of the two.
If it is the asus 5770 you can OC that bitch to higher than a 4890
I just bought this card :buddy: Got a benchmark of it showing this OC?
5770.
