Swedish police banned from describing criminals anymore in case they sound racist
Swedish police will no longer be able to give descriptions of alleged criminals for fear of being seen as racist.
According to an internal letter, police in capital city Stockholm are instructed to refrain from describing suspects' race and nationality, according to news website Speisa.
The crimes “involve everything from lighter traffic accidents to serious crimes like muggings, beatings and murder,” the paper reported.
The letter specifies that, for everyday crimes such as burglary, basic information such as ethnicity, nationality, skin colour and height should not be given.
Sweden is slowly killing itself. It's disgusting.
Because god forbid a description of the suspect actually, you know, describe thrm.
It's been like this for a good while. Hardly anything new besides the fact they explicitly told them to do so and that it went public.
Sweden: Where Political Correctness overrules human safety
This could be turned into a pretty decent comedy skit though where the police keep interrupting a distressed victim while they're trying to describe the criminal because they're going into too much detail.
I'd name it PCops.

Except it's not affecting human safety.
Has this actually been occuring? Because according to the article:
The letter, dated September 15, 2015...
(This 'not at all relevant' tidbit was posted at the very very bottom of the article, by the way)
Also I checked out one of the sources listed (Speisa) and it is hardly a bastion of neutrality.

Potentially letting a criminal go free because you couldn't accurately describe his physical features seems very likely to affect human safety to me.
What the fuck is happening to this country?
Except it's not affecting human safety.
If this is true then it ceartinly is affecting safety. I have heard about things like this but I have always thought it was just made up
Now it becomes a game of trying to describe a color without using its name.
"Well Officer, the person was about 6 feet tall, male, brown hair, blue eyes, and had a skin color ending in 'hite'."
Isn't that counter productive if the suspects are still at large? I mean I understand not disclosing that information if it's a traffic stop, but burglary? Might be good to know what the suspect looms like in the event that a citizen comes across them.
Racist?
I don't think that word means what they think it means.

but atleast nobody got offended !
Can someone who understands Swedish history and culture explain what went wrong? When I was a kid Sweden seemed like this magical land where you don't need to worry about money, race wasn't an issue and it was illegal for any establishment to refuse to serve you IKEA meatballs on-demand. Why does Sweden seem so backwards and over-compensated with regards to race issues?

Sweden is the living proof that if you try and be as liberal as possible, it bounces back and it doesn't turn into equality, since you know, Promoting equality should remove discrimination from all areas.

90's extreme right got replaced by the extreme left.

There's nothing bad about living in the country itself. People tend to exaggerate the living situation with our political issues and whatnot, but living here itself isn't bad.

Yeah I didn't mean to imply it wasn't, I just mean there seems to be quite a lot of weirdly extremist politics that seem to defy common sense (case in point, this OP). I mean, what drives a police department to value hurt feelings over actually catching a criminal? I just don't understand how a country gets to that point.

Sweden is still one of the best places to live in terms of health and happiness though.

most likely the rise of regressive liberalism in western culture in general, taken to an extreme by a country that had the luxury to do so. combined with the fact that immigration and culture mixing have caused some pretty severe problems in sweden so there's a lot they need to sweep under the rug if they're going to keep their Utopian narrative alive.
The problem has always been the deep fear of unwittingly feeding the extreme-right agenda. Hiding issues instead of combating them will eventually lead to a major shift in opinion - something I think we are starting to see at the moment.

We let it go way too far though.
I refuse to believe that any of this is real.
SWEDEN YES

So does this mean we're gonna have Scott Pilgrim-esque descriptions?
"Yeah, we're out looking for that one guy."
"okay everyone don't panic but we have a person loose in the building"
"is he a shooter or something? Why should we be afraid of this guy? What does he look like?"
" did I say it's a man? And I'm not implying it's a woman either. Or anything else, as that would be sexist. We also can't tell you what it is doing our carrying with it. That would be a breach of privacy. Just watch out. Not that we're saying this person is dangerous. "
Please tell me this is a joke.
What the fuck.

We really need someone to give us the rundown on this since this is a tabloid.
"I was stabbed officer"
"We'll keep a look out for a man with a knife. Thank you sir."
What if the suspect doesn't sexually identify as a man and gets his feelings hurt? :(
