Is piracy coming to an end? Nintendo’s UK general manager thinks we may be at the cusp of a new day when piracy is no longer a viable option. Speaking with CVG about Nintendo’s upcoming 3DS handheld, David Yarnton and UK marketing manager James Honeywell seemed pretty confident in the new anti-piracy technology in the system and the increased pressure countries around the world are putting on digital thieves. “We can’t divulge any technical details on that but needless to say this is probably one of our best pieces of equipment in that respect,” said Yarnton. “There are a lot of things we’ve learnt over time to try and improve the security and protection – not only of our IP but of our third-party publishers’ IP as well. It’s not just to the extent of the technical side but on a global basis many countries and governments are recognising that the IP of creative industries and such needs to be protected. There are things happening all the time, but as I said if you went and made bold statements saying ‘this is uncrackable’…” Honeywell elaborated on Yarnton’s statements with more enthusiasm. “There’s definitely a step change coming and you see it in various countries around the world,” said Honeywell. “People are aware that video games, music and movies make massive contributions to the economies of countries. They need to make sure they start protecting those things. I think perhaps there’s been a ‘heyday of piracy’ and we’ve now seen a lot of rules come in to stop it.” Last year, THQ also spoke highly of Nintendo’s anti-piracy efforts in the 3DS, but as of yet, neither Nintendo or its partners have revealed any significant details on exactly how the system combats digital copies differently from previous video game handhelds. Though countries are beginning to crack down on pirates, illegal downloads of video games continue to soar. With more and more digital distribution on the horizon, the industry will only face greater pressure in the future.
Only one thing can come out of this.
Strike fast, strike first! That may not be the official motto for Ubisoft, but it should be. Hot on the heels of the official Nintendo 3DS announcement earlier today which gave a ship date and price to the handheld device, Ubisoft followed suit with an announcement of its own, highlighting the eight new titles it plans to ship for the device within the first half of 2011. Pricing and specific release dates were not given, but the following titles are listed below (taken from the press release): Asphalt™ 3D: Developed by Gameloft and published by Ubisoft, Asphalt 3D brings all the excitement and speed of the Asphalt franchise to stereoscopic 3D, featuring more than 40 licensed vehicles, 17 exotic track locations and complete StreetPass™ functionality. Combat of GiantsTM Dinosaurs 3D: This 3D take on the popular kids’ franchise mixes exploration and customization with real-time combats. Players ages 7 to 10-years old will be immersed into a cataclysmic universe and live the ultimate 3D fighting experience. Driver® Renegade: The first and exclusive action driving game on the Nintendo 3DS that lets the player experience the intensity and brutality of urban car chases in 3D. Players will embody the Driver series hero John Tanner and use the accelerometer to unleash their urban driving skills. James Noir’s Hollywood CrimesTM: A brand new intellectual property developed exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS, James Noir’s Hollywood Crimes makes the player the main character in a mind-twisting puzzle adventure taking place in an interactive 3D world, with 150 puzzles and mind games to solve. Rabbids® Travel in Time: Rabbids are bwaaaaaack and this time they have an infallible plan to invade the human world: conquer history in their first platform adventure developed exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS. Rayman® 3D: One of the most popular franchises of all time lands on Nintendo 3DS with an outstanding platform experience that will take advantage of the Nintendo 3DS specifications with impressive graphics, stunning 3D effects and full use of the Circle Pad. An adaptation of the acclaimed Rayman 2 original game on Dreamcast, Rayman 3D will feature major updates on key game play elements such as accessibility, progression and learning curve. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon® Shadow Wars: The first tactical, turn-based Ghost Recon game, featuring eye-popping 3D cut scenes and in-game effects, deep team management options and a 1vs1 multiplayer mode on the same console. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell® 3D: Sam Fisher is back in this masterpiece of the stealth/action genre, mixing the tension and realism that makes the essence of the franchise with unprecedented immersion and accessibility thanks to the stereoscopic 3D and innovative controls of the Nintendo 3DS.
http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/ubisoft-announces-its-nintendo-3ds-lineup/
Heh. Game on.
I give them a month tops.
I give it 3 weeks before somebody cracks it.
Two weeks.
Challenge Accepted.
Would be nice if it worked, but it won't. People who crack consoles are good at what they do.
one day
hahaha good luck with that nintendo
Morons. If any expert hackers weren't planning on cracking it before they will be now. :downs:
this will fail.
The best part is Ubisoft's support.
If someone can make it, someone can break it.
This will end like that time with the Kinect
This is the opposite of how you do it. If you have a supposedly strong security system going on, you shut the fuck up about it and give zero details on how it works, why it works or the ideas behind it. You do not tempt fate and say "This is uncrackable, you can't touch us", because now everyone will try it, expert or not. And that means, sooner or later, it'll be cracked. It's just a time game now, and this announcement sped it up.
Piracy is over till someone cracks this shit. Then what now Nintendo, What now? Make another Mario Party?

Two months maximum, a month for the money.
Good job Nintendo, you just insulted all the hacking teams out there. Now it WILL be cracked in short time.
If theres something to crack, hackers will crack it.
I'll give it a month. I will be seriously impressed though if their statements holds out.
Hahahahaahhahahahahha... NO!
one day
A pair of weeks before it comes out, like the Game Boy Advance :v:
I really really really doubt it. Previous Nintendo portable consoles weren't even protected at all. The wii's protection was and is still a joke.
Hackers will find a way. They always do.
Apart from 256 bit encryptions
Hackers will find a way. They always do.
Well, all the Mario Party, Super Mario World, and This Ain't Mario XXX games do get old. I don't think pirates will mess with it. Anyways, who the fuck wants a 3DS anyways, and what is it good for?
I bet it'll be a little better than the DS at least I mean seriously you just bought a flashcart and got roms and BAM free games for life The wii wa pretty easy to hack too, though the newest system update made it a bit harder
Anyways, who the fuck has a 3DS anyways
Uhh no one, because it's not out yet...
Anyways, who the fuck wants a 3DS anyways, and what is it good for?
I want one :colbert:
Anyways, who the fuck wants a 3DS anyways, and what is it good for?
Oh, I don't know, maybe playing games?
who the fuck wants a 3DS anyways?
Oh, you know... all the awesome remakes.
