Today my lurcher cross, Jess has been put down. She had been sick for a few days, I only assumed it was a bug, the first day she craped on the rug, and I assumed for the day she was just embarrassed, she acted like she usually did when she did something embarrassing, she laid in her basket all day, it wasn’t until later that night when I noticed she had not eaten that I thought she was sick. The next day she was laying on the floor when I got up, and had craped again, but then, she didn't get up to greet me like she always did. Later on I brought her water bowl in to see if she would drink, she stood up and drank more than she ever had in one go before. And then she just flopped down in the same spot, I tried giving her a treat, but no, she didn't even sniff it. So I just laid it next to her, and patted her for a while. The next day the same old story, crap, no greeting, laid there, this is when I began to think, my parents did too, and decided the next day they would take her to the vet, mum opened the back door and tried shouting her, but nothing, so dad picked her up and took her outside to go to the toilet, she stood up, had a wee, and flopped down in the snow, dad picked her up and took her to her basket, later that day she got up, and laid on the floor in the same spot as before. We patted her before we went to bed. Today, we got up and she was hacking every time she breathed out, and soon coughed up some blood, we began to panic. Before she was taken to the vet we all patted her because she didn't like the vet. Then dad picked her up and laid her in the car, when that door slammed shut, it hit me, like a ton of bricks. She was going to die. She was a rescue dog from the RSPCA, and a year after we got her she had a lump on her neck, we took her to the vet and they told us it was cancer, they removed it and the RSPCA told us if they had known they would not have given her to us. But I'm glad we had her, she was the kindest gentlest dog I knew, she was quiet (except when the postman came) and would just put up with you, she was a big softy. So when my parents got back, no dog, she had been put down. The vet explained that the cancer had came back in her wind pipe, which is why she was hacking, she will not have been in any pain though, because she would have acted differently, she was given a needle and mum hugged her as she fell asleep. When the vet asked about the body, mum told them to handle it; she would have liked to bury her under the pear tree where she used to lay in the shade during summer. But it was snowy and the ground will have been too hard, so she was cremated. I suppose writing this thread has helped me if only a little.

Do they not want the owner to find it and get closure?
:unsmith: Cute dog.
Mine died last summer 16 :smith:
I wish I could have my dog back, he is still alive but completely blind and deaf. Almost as old as me in fact.
My dog's a prick. Not to say that I want him to die, but beagles fucking suck. Never again.
Loot it's pockets for money. Oh wait........
My old Golden died when I was pretty little, so I didn't really understand at the time why he wasn't coming back. Because of that, I dealt with it fairly well. Recently, though, my bird died. He was fucking ancient, especially for a parakeet. He was on the order of thirteen or fourteen years old. Thing is, I always took him for granted. Now that he doesn't sing along when I play the piano anymore, it really saddens me.
Mine died last summer, Poor kitty was whining for 2 weeks. We had no idea what was wrong with her, except she refused to eat. so we had to force feed her for the last week of her life.Eventually, we decided that enough was enough, and it was time for us to stop being selfish so we took her into the veterinarian's office and lay her down on the table. As we were walking out of the room; she got up with the last of her strength and looked me in the eye. I was very sad

My Shih-Tzu dog is still a pup, but even though he's young, I just hope nothing bad would happen to him. :smith:
My dog is old as fuck, wish she'd hurry up and die.

I know how it feels.. My cat was with me my whole life, and having to put him down due to cancer ruined me.... RIP Jess. I hope your doing ok with it Crimson...
I've got a 10 year old dog and he's starting to move less and less I don't know what I'd do if I lost him. I have already been through 4 dog deaths 2 cocker spaniels and 2 german sheperds
I once had a rabbit. Fuck, it was annoying. I was happy when it died
We have a rule here: 'This is facepunch, not the obituaries.' I know there are threads that haven't been locked before but you're just asking for people to take the piss with this. I'll lock it, but I won't ban you, 'cause your dog died.
