French Ministers Calls on Patriotic Citizens to Become Reservists
49 replies, posted
French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve urged French civilians Saturday to join the military reserves to help the country tackle a wave of terrorist attacks that have befalled France in recent months.
"I want to call on all French patriots who wish to do so, to join this operational reserve," said Cazeneuve adding that France's "operational reservists" include French citizens with or without military experience as well as former soldiers.
His call comes after many French citizens have criticized the government for not doing more to protect innocent bystanders.
Meanwhile French President Francois Hollande said Friday that reservists would be called upon to boost the ranks of police and gendarmes.
The operational reserve is currently made up of 12,000 volunteers, 9,000 of whom are within the paramilitary police and 3,000 in the regular police force, said Cazeneuve.
Every country in NATO sorta relies on the United States for defense. They wouldn't hold a stick to anything really if shit hit the fan.
You heard 'em, everybody run away and join the foreign legion.

I'm reading this as the public criticizing the government and the government in turn blaming the public for not doing enough. Is this correct?

Classic american thinking.

Because little England is the bulwark of the NATO alliance

Nope why would it be
Nope why would it be
Because the US is.
Classic american thinking.
Our defense budget is greater than the next seven highest-spending countries combined. So the assertion that NATO might depend on the US isn't far-fetched.
yes but in a thread about the french wanting to draw on more reservists because the constant state of emergency is causing fatigue among current troops i'm failing to see why americans are needing to talk about america

Yes, the french army which is understaffed as are most other countries in NATO compared to the US
It's completely relevant.
Yes, the french army which is understaffed as are most other countries in NATO compared to the US

its because france as been in a state of emergency for a long period of time so most of its soldiers are called up
it wants more reservists cycle through the deployments so current soldiers get more of a break
americans dont need to talk about america lol i know sometimes you find it difficult
I don't see how people joining up will actually fix any of the problems France faces right now, unless "military reserves" means something different in France.
yes but in a thread about the french wanting to draw on more reservists because the constant state of emergency is causing fatigue among current troops i'm failing to see why americans are needing to talk about america
The question was, "is the French army understaffed?" The answer was, "well NATO does pretty much rely on the USA for military strength."
I'm not sure what your issue is or why you're shitposting.

France is part of NATO.
Most of NATO's military force is thanks to the American military.
I'm out of dots to connect here.

All of French soldiers are not all on duty all of the time.
They get leave every once in a while when needed. France isn't in a state of total war where every man must be armed and working every single day.

Yeah, I know, I read the article too
That comment about how France's army is weaker than it probably should be is right. They should reasonably be able to field enough soldiers to deal with something like this indefinitely, what would happen if they were to go to war and the soldiers were actually dying? they'd be in a pretty tight spot if someone else didn't step in. Also, it's not like all the soldiers are constantly called upon and aren't resting. They aren't at war.
I get that you're mad that the colonies escaped or whatever but please calm down

yes they should conscript another million soldiers to blanket the entire country with patriots
i mean it works so well for north korea
Like it or not, America is world police. I wish someone else besides Russia or China would step up to the bat, but until then we just have to deal with it. I say give the job to the swedes.

They must be dead from exhaustion since those reports date from last year.
I don't see how bringing more reservists will help prevent attacks like what happened in Nice.

surely you are capable of critical thinking and understand that the state of emergency hasn't lifted since then but was due to expire soon but after these attacks they want more reserves to extend it again
