• Turkey scrambles jets on Syria border
Turkey has scrambled six F-16 fighters jets near its border with Syria after Syrian helicopters came close to the border, the country's army says. A total of six jets were sent to the area in response to three such incidents on Sunday, although there was no border violation, the Reuters news agency quoted the statement saying. Last month, Syrian forces shot down a Turkish jet in the border area. The incident further strained already tense relations between former allies. On Friday, Turkey said it had begun deploying rocket launchers and anti-aircraft guns along the border in response to the downing of its F-4 Phantom jet. Turkey has strongly criticised Syria's response to the 16-month anti-government uprising, which has seen more than 30,000 Syrian refugees enter Turkey. Four of the six jets were scrambled from the air base of Incirlik in response to Syrian helicopters flying close to the Turkish province of Hatay, Reuters quoted Sunday's army statement as saying. Two more F-16s took off from a base in Batman after Syrian helicopters were spotted close to the province of Mardin, it added.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-18666165
Syria need to realise that Turkey won't put up with any of their shit.
I hope they blow up one of their helicopters. They need to know that people are getting tired of them.
Syria need to realise that Turkey won't put up with any of their shit.
I don't think Syria can really control half their actions any more. Turkey is going to roll over them. What I'm curious about is, how will Turkey deal with the rebels. The Turks aren't doing this to support them, they're doing this because the Syrian government hurt them too. An enemy of my enemy isn't always my friend, and even if it is it doesn't make you good, best friends.
Only a matter of time before people start blowing up
Last month, Syrian forces shot down a Turkish jet in the border area.
I read this and thought, "Shit, it's been a whole month already?" then realized today was July 1st. [editline]1st July 2012[/editline]
Only a matter of time before people start blowing up
People have been blowing for over a year now.
I hope they blow up one of their helicopters.
You want Turkey to start a war with Syria before the UN has even decided on an a resolution for an intervention?
You want Turkey to start a war with Syria before the UN has even decided on an a resolution for an intervention?
lol UN lol, what a joke.
You want Turkey to start a war with Syria before the UN has even decided on an a resolution for an intervention?
Yes. Someone needs to step up to the plate. Considering their massacring their own people, and blowing planes out of the air for no damned reason.
from a base in Batman
:v: [editline]1st July 2012[/editline] They are the heroes Syria deserve
lol UN lol, what a joke.
If you consider the UN the joke for their handling of the Syria situation, then you might as well consider every party involved with it to be such. You can't just launch an all-out war, when two super-powers, not only do not back the intervention, but actively oppose it. It's a supranational organization that is supposed to be the representative of all of these nations. Here's the problem: The American delegation and the delegation of various European countries supports an intervention into Syria, because of the obvious crimes against humanity that are committed during the Syrian Revolution. So, suppose that the UN launches an offensive, completely ignoring Russia and China. Now, let's say, that the day after that, Russian and Chinese delegations demand an offensive against Turkey for suppressing the Kurds. Now, by the same logic, the UN would have to publish an interventionist resolution against Turkey, completely ignoring the American and European delegations that wouldn't support that. So the UN apparently should have the power to take one side or the other of super-powers, and almost spontaneously call for interventions against anyone the power they have sided with wants. International relationships would fail. The UN can't, obviously just ignore one of its main superpowers/sides/factions/whatever, and act on its 'own'. It's absurd. It's little more than a collection of delegations from all over the world. The UN's representatives don't have much of a choice but try to work things out between the various superpowers, so that their response is united.
The first thing that comes to mind when I hear the term "Scramble the jets!" is that I imagine a bunch of pilots running around like headless chickens, getting in the wrong planes, huge jams on the runway, etc. etc.
lol UN lol, what a joke.
"Syyyyria. Stop it pleaaase. Pretty pretty pleaseeee?"
"Syyyyria. Stop it pleaaase. Pretty pretty pleaseeee?"
"We'll take away your dessert privileges for a week if you don't stop!"
"We'll take away your dessert privileges for a week if you don't stop!"
UN would never do that.
I heard the UN are currently preparing another commission to make the draft of a strongly worded letter that may be send to Syria if they don't improve their treatment of their own civilians by 2014.
