I don't know if this is the right section, so I'm just going to post it in the General Discussion board and hope for the best.
I myself have been looking to get into the modding community, and I have started with 3D modeling.
However, this has proved to be exceptionally hard due to all the tutorials I look at, being out of date, and having a hard time understanding what tool do what, and where they are located, since the tutorials say to perform specific actions that have such changed in my current version of the software.
So I ask anyone who knows, what would be some modding roles I could try out?
A friend suggested map making, another said LUA Scripting (but I think that might only be Gmod, not 100% sure).
I wouldn't mind getting back into 3D modeling if someone could offer some good (hopefully free, but if not, no problem) software, and tutorials.
I've tried Blender and XSI Softimage Mod Tool, and I can say I dislike the latter, and the former has no up to date tutorials I could find.
So, if anyone could help me out that'd be great.
If not, sorry for bothering.
I'd try checking out the GMod modeling board, I'm sure they know some good tutorials and would be glad to help.

im not sure about the second part
Try MilkShape
I'll check out the Garrysmod board tomorrow, since it is late here and I am too tired to put forth any real effort in terms of modeling.
MilkShape looks very interesting, but from what I read it is better used for games such as Half Life 1 and Quake III, as opposed to Source games.
