Massive microphone echo loop; messed up inputs/outputs?

So I just dug out my microphone a while back, it's a SonicGear HS405. I've just installed mumble but upon chatting with my friends, I realised that my microphone would generate a large echo consisting of my voice, my friends' voices, as well as system sound. I'm using a headset and not speakers. The echo continues even after I move the microphone away from my mouth and my headset.
E.g I say "hello". My friend says "hello". Immediately there will be an echo of my voice saying hello as well as my friend's, and the echo continues in an indefinite loop, getting louder and louder until I depress my push-to-talk.
When I move my microphone away from my headset and myself, the "hello" echo can still be heard which leads me to believe that my headset's output is inputting into my microphone's somehow. I might be just spouting bullshit though, if anyone knows how to resolve this problem I would be thankful.
Try getting another microphone or another headset.
I'm having the same problem, it's worked fine up until now.
It seems the problem is that my computer sound is outputting to my microphone too, resulting in the echo. So people can hear my computer sounds in the background while I talk. If their speakers are loud enough they can cause the infinite loop.
I've read that I need to disable stereo mix, but I can't find that option anywhere. I don't think I have a soundcard, dxdiag reports it as from Microsoft.
Right click the sound icon in the program tray thingy, recording devices, right click stereo mix -> disable, right click whatever seems to be your mic -> enable
also, these settings are all a piece of shit and people always have trouble getting it working properly so if it doesn't work just keep enabling and disabling shit til it does
I have no stereo mix, checking "show enabled devices" doesn't work either.
If you find a solution, please message me, Frozen.
