• I need some information before i buy a new GPU

Alright so i am going to buy an ATI Radeon HD 5850 seeing as my 2 years old GPU(8600 GT) is WAY too weak for current standards. Here are my specs: 3.0 GB DDR2 Intel Q6600 2.4 Ghz Quad Core(yes i know this core is also rather weak, but i am also planning on updating this later) Windows XP SP 3 (I'm going to update to Windows 7 after i get the new GPU) Now my questions are these: I thinking over buying it from here. Is it a good price y/n? What does the Diamond before it means?, i ask this because i once saw the same graphics card but with Sapphire instead of Diamond. What is the difference between a XFX 5850 and a normal 5850? That's all and i appreciate any help.
What is your PSU? Looks like a prebuilt from the given specs, so I recommend just saving up for a new build. [editline]11:46AM[/editline] Also that CPU is good from what I hear. Overclock it by ~400-600 mhz. Also, cheaper and just as good 5850 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150494. 2) Not a good price 3) Diamond is the manufacturer. That Sapphire is another manufacturer. They are basically the same except slight differences in speed/quality/customer service etc. 4) Is it a prebuilt (your current computer)?

ATI makes the chips on the card. What is the difference between a XFX 5850 and a normal 5850? - They're all different brands with varying amounts of memory and maybe a few clock speed tweaks here and there.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150494 Same card albeit $30 cheaper. OP, get new motherboard, new RAM, Windows 7, and a new GPU. What games do you play?
Yes i will, are you sure there is no difference between the tiger one and this one? Also i usually play new games.
Yes i will, are you sure there is no difference between the tiger one and this one? Also i usually play new games.
Yes I will what? I'm confused. I would just salvage the CPU and make a whole new computer.
Yes I will what? I'm confused. Also is there a difference between the two cards, just so i can know becuase i heard that Diamond has a terrible warranty.

Get the XFX, I know for sure that they have double-lifetime warranty or something; besides it is cheaper.
Alright i will, thanks for the advice, Admins can close the thread now.
So you are getting the 5850 now? What is your PSU?
Just get a GTX 470 for 299$
The 5850 is better than the 470. http://www.techspot.com/review/283-geforce-gtx-400-vs-radeon-hd-5800/
So you are getting the 5850 now? What is your PSU?
Yes but i have no idea what my PSU is to be honest.
Yes but i have no idea what my PSU is to be honest.
I bet your PSU is crap. Your current PC is a prebuilt right?
I bet your PSU is crap. Your current PC is a prebuilt right?
No, a friend of mine who is a PC tech in Virginia built it for me like 2 years ago. EDIT: Just in case my PSU doesn't have enough power will this do: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341016&cm_re=500W_psu-_-17-341-016-_-Product&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&AID=10446076&PID=3899435&SID=skim1402X558040 Also i think the GPU won't fit in my case because i have a inspiron 530.

But then you say it is an Inspiron 530 :raise:, which is a Dell case.
I thought you said your friend built it? I think your friend just picked the parts on Dell's website, he didn't actually build it. Also I'm pretty sure your PSU is too weak for a 5850.
