Ok so my friend lost his Vista disk. Is there any other way to get a new one than the go-to-store-buy one?
I think downloading a Vista .iso and burning it to a dvd disc is legal as long as you don't use any cracks and you use your own CD key, correct me if I'm wrong.
Otherwise I think you could just contact Microsoft and get a replacement disc.
You should be able to download a Vista .iso from MS themselves somewhere.

Agreed. Disc ISOs are legit, uncracked. If you install the OS without a Licence, it's basically Trialware and locks you out after a certain amount of days. Your licence key is proof of purchase.

It isn't trialware. It's a grace period for reinstallations between the time WGA will allow you to use the same key for a reinstall, if you bought a warez product and you need time for MS to deal with it and get you a new key, if you lost your key, etc.

Technicalities. Same basic principal applies; you can use it for free for a small amount of time before it expires. Usually it's enough time to purchase a license.

That still doesn't make it a trial period Rizzo.
Just get W7
If he needs it to recover his computer or something then ask someone else who has a vista OS to use the 'Make recovery disk' option built in.

Alot of the time you can download the recovery disc for free, just make sure you find a reputable download, because a recovery disc packed with Trojans really defeats the purpose. :v:
