Forget the tricycle — your kid needs a metal detector.
James Hyatt, then 3, found $4 million worth of medieval gold on a trip with his father and grandfather while scouring the Essex countryside with their device.
Hyatt, now 4, was minutes into his first attempt at metal detecting when the buzzing of his family’s machine unearthed a 16th-century reliquary.
“I was holding the detector and it went beep, beep, beep,” James told Britain’s Daily Mail. “Then we dug into the mud. There was gold there. We didn’t have a map. Only pirates have treasure maps.”
With a gold content of 73 per cent, the 8.68-gram locket the Hyatts unearthed is engraved with the five wounds of Christ and what seems to be an image of the Virgin Mary, supporting a cross covered in specks of blood.
“Devotion to the blood and wounds of Christ was one of the hallmarks of late medieval piety,” said experts from the British Museum in a letter about the pendant.
There are only three other similar reliquaries known to exist in the world.
“James was so excited when he realized he had found real treasure. Dad was blown away,” the boy’s father, Jason Hyatt, told the Daily Mail.
“In 15 years doing it as a hobby, I'd never found anything like it. If we get any money, it will be for the children,” he added.
As with all found treasure in the U.K., the pendant will be investigated by a treasure-trove inquest. All proceeds from the sale of the relic will be split between the Hyatt family and the owner of the field it was found in.[/release]

People spend their lives doing this and never find anything like what this kid found.
Oh great he found my ancestors relic. Can I have it back now?
Woah. That kid is going to have bragging rights for the rest of his life.
Hello free doctorate degree.
That kid could probably retire right now and live the rest of his life off that. (assuming he was sensible with his money)
Cool.
Lucky.
I am a failure.

No you're not. The kid's just an unbelievably jammy sod.

Shut up you know nothing about me.

Very well. I wish you the best of luck with your horrible failure of a life.
Oh my god. It's the The Triangle of Zinthar. Don't let Barbara Streisand get a hold of it or she'll transform.
Actually he only gets 1/2 of it. Some lucky farmer just got a $2m windfall.
Lucky kid! All I ever found was scrap
Wait until kanye wears it on a chain in his next video.
Shit, if this kid were to store it in a bank account and wait until he got out of college, he could live really comfortably
Imagine, if his parents don't touch the money and the interest builds up over the course of about 20 years (assuming he goes to college and doesn't acquire debt) and then gets a job he could then take the interest he got off of that money and add it to his monthly salary.
brb robbing the child

I wouldn't let 4M sit in a bank account. There are 99 ways to invest and sitting in a bank ain't one.
Beginners luck.
Nothing short of remarkable.

Yeah but it's the safest. If he drops it in a savings account that compounds interest at 3% annually by the time he is 23 (about getting out of college age) he'll have roughly 7.3 million dollars. If he was to start working at that age, he would be able to add 18k to his monthly salary just with the interest he earns. If he gets out of college and lands a solid job, he could even save that money up. If not he's earning a pretty decent amount for a single guy (or married even) without children.
Fast forward a bit when he's around 30 and has a kid (or kids). If he's doing well at his job and has been promoted he could be earning a solid middle class income + 20k bonus a month. Hell he'd never even have to touch that money unless it was an emergency.
I'd invest in a bank, I wouldn't take my chances investing in anything other than that.

Dude you could live off the interest.
You see, this is the downside of living in the United States, especially in the Pacific Northwest. Nothing of historical significance to be unearthed.
Usually I'm against beating up children and taking their findings, but there's an exception to every rule.
So does it cost $4M because it's made of gold or because of what is carved into it?

d'aww
Looks like somebody will be sticking this old gold in LMAO pics soon.

Who needs having a threesome with Swedish supermodel twins while sipping exotic drinks as you float across the Caribbean in your a hot air jacuzzi, when you can have a useless hunk of gold!?
