As France prepare to host millions of visitors at the Euro 2016 Football Championships, a state of emergency has been extended in the country as it faces its largest protests in recent history.
Hundreds of thousands of citizens have taken to the streets in France, amounting to what some are calling the new French Revolution amid a total media blackout in Western news outlets.
Anonhq.com reports:
The first collaborative protest against the Socialist government since Hollande came to power in 2012, kicked off on 9 March. On March 31, nearly 400,000 people took to the streets, disagreeing with the sweeping changes to labor laws; though organizers put the number at 1.2 million.
On April 9, about 120,000 people marched in Paris and across France for a sixth time, protesting against contested labor reforms. Organizers called for yet another strike on April 28, and a massive protest on May 1, Labor Day. Reports of police officers clashing with protesters, deploying tear gas in several French cities, and protesters burning vehicles, smashing windows flooded the Internet.

The Controversial Labor Reform:
1. Makes it easier for companies to lay off staff and cut costs in difficult economic times.
2. Allows companies to opt out of national labor protection rules if they reach in-house deals on pay and conditions with the consent of a majority of their staff – and not the trade unions.
3. Allows employers to extend the legal work week from current 35 hours to 48 hours – up to 60 hours with an ‘exceptional authorization’, and reduce overtime from current 25% to not less than 10%.
4. Proposes surtax on short-term contracts aimed at getting employers to hire more people on permanent contracts
5. Introduces a cap – 15 months of pay – on compensation in cases of unfair dismissal.
What the hell is going on over there? Why is nobody talking about this? This is some pretty serious shit besides the fact that it'll fuck over one of the most productive countries in the world in terms of workers because if this passes France it sets a very easy precedent for other countries to do the same.
I've noticed a lack of mentions of it here too, but I had been banned at the time and couldn't post about them myself. There are a lot of Periscope streams I've been watching of them, and it's fucking crazy.
The revolution will not be televised - Gil Scott-Heron.
Man, your source seems really, really awful and cites equally bad sources. Not really questioning the shit going down; sounds quite like the french, but the sources to everything about it seem... Iffy at very best.

There has been a media blackout on this.

Everything I've personally read and seen of this has been from personal recordings/streams and reddit. Nothing whatsoever anywhere else

Why would there be a 'media blackout'? What even is that supposed to mean? That the combined world media - Including shitty RT and daily mail that sensationalize and spin up literally anything - just agreed to not cover a "french revolution"?
Or is it maybe just that Anonymous' 'official' website is an awful source and some page with "News. Truth. Unfiltered." in its' title miiight just be overstating the protests?

It's not so much of a complete blackout, but here you go from a few sources

Not doubting that they're real, but the source posted and the sources it cites seem to make a mountain out of a seven-foot mound of dirt. An awful lot of dirt, but far from a mountain. Protests and riots are not "a new french revolution" just yet, and calling it such is just fucking retarded.
I thought you couldn't overrule EU legislation?
Doesn't that kind of kill the whole Leave campaign (Britain)'s argument about making our own laws? When clearly France have just done that?
I've heard this mentioned a few times on NPR. It's usually followed up with a statement that strikes and shit happen all the time in France. That's probably the major reason for lack of media coverage, it's business as usual.

Not really - they've been on the news over here all the time. Nobody just cares, because it's the french, rioting yet again.

You can't If this passes the EU might investigate, and destroy the law.

I love your "If the EU finds out about this", like EU is some sorta Eye of Sauron style tower in Brussels that randomly darts around, spotting breaches of their all-powerful laws and striking down with hordes of German politicians whenever a violation is found. The EU already knows. They've known from before it was even a thing. They're not doing shit because they never do shit, and they pretty much can't do shit if folks don't want shit to be done.

It was posted a while ago, but honestly there's always a lack of coverage on American media.
It's kind of sad that a government would do something so totally against the wishes of their people to supposedly improve the economy
trust the french to go apeshit over the laws regulating labour being loosened slightly
French protests and labor strikes are basically a national sport. This literally happens so much that media stopped reporting on it.

It's more than a little...
I mean one of the big points is it allows companies to circumvent the national standards if the union agrees to, which lets face it, doesn't exactly sound good.

many of the proposed changes have been cut or reduced after negotiations and attempts to broker a deal
the reforms have already been watered down a ton
trust the french to go apeshit over the laws regulating labour being loosened slightly
The fuck are you talking about? These reforms are pretty huge. Increasing the workweek from 35 to fucking 48 hours is a really really big gap. That is not in any way insignifigant.
There's good points and bad points in this law, but to be fair i'm pretty sure the protests aren't just about that specific law, but more about the fact that people are just fed up with politics. I mean, the government wants to pass that law using the 49.3 article, which basically means it circumvent the deputy: they don't get to vote and the law is passed, just like that. People are fed up of being fucked over for economic reasons when the big players still have all the power and money. Nothing is being done to the richs and the ones that are supposed to represent the people, but just pass stuff in their interest.
I think at that point we should just rewrite everything. There's so many articles and stuff added to the laws it's getting really bloated and hard to understand.
I also don't think it's just a french sentiment. We're just the best in the world when it comes to strikes so that's how we roll.
The fuck are you talking about? These reforms are pretty huge. Increasing the workweek from 35 to fucking 48 hours is a really really big gap. That is not in any way insignifigant.
35 hours is already the shortest in europe
i also really doubt that everybody is going to suddenly start working 48 hours a week
My two cents:
-The laws are only making legitimate practices that are already common in the private domain. FYI you can already shove a lot of your overtime pay up your ass (it's the private domain so if you're not happy you're welcome to take the door and look for a better job) so 10% or 25% cap don't make that much of a difference
- Law don't change anything to the public domain. Yet most protesters are from the public domain (school teachers, universities, public transportation ) and students and high schooler. People that are actually touched by the laws are a minority; instead they are trying to find a way to go to work because transports are fucked, and to find someone to guard their children because of school strikes.
Not saying that the law is good (it is not) but it is getting ridiculous in proportions. Last week the leader of the main protesting party-the CGT- manipulated the media and prevented some newspaper to publish because said papers didn't want to publish his letter.
Right now France is a big bag of stupidity in both the government and protests. Some of the protesters's papers looks like soviet propaganda ffs
In france people want to work 30hrs/week and be paid 40. This is never going to work, and people are just never going to be happy so fuck it I'm tired of this stupid lazy mentality
I do remember news about the french riots due to the Labor Reform here for a couple of days.
I'm guessing the media just turned their attention to other things, this is nothing new, after days of the same shit the media turns to something else, I mean you don't see them reporting on the refugee crisis anymore besides maybe a mention yet it's still going, even the war on ISIS has fallen into the background only coming up when something really big happens.
Point being the media know people get tired of seeing the same news over and over regardless of what it is and so they will drop old news. Attention is now on the floods.
oh and yeah the french riot all the time lol
35 hours is already the shortest in europe

48 is very, very long though.

"You know nothing, Jon Snow"
Why is nobody talking about this?
Euronews talks about it at least minimum once per week, is not like there's a media blackout (another word would be why half the times the media focus on the riots rather than the protests and the reasoning behind it).
This is some pretty serious shit besides the fact that it'll fuck over one of the most productive countries in the world in terms of workers because if this passes France it sets a very easy precedent for other countries to do the same.
Too late, they already did with southern Europe. These laws are pretty similar to the ones done here, and trust us, is going to plummet the economy of France if they pass.
48 is very, very long though.
9 hours weekdays and free weekend doesn't sound unreasonable. It's damn near a standard 9-5 workhour
I really hate this "the French always protest lol" stuff. It glosses over the actual issues at hand and weakens the idea of protest
