Florida Dad Shakes Baby to Death for Interrupting Xbox Marathon
Jacob David Hartley had been a dad for three weeks, but apparently didn't have as much enthusiasm for his newborn son as he did for his Xbox. The 20-year-old Lakeland, Florida, resident stands accused of shaking his son to death after the child started crying while he was in the middle of a video game marathon.
The boy's mother, Amber Newton, told Polk County Sheriff's Deputies that on Thursday Hartley played video games from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. He was interrupted for thirty minutes to hold his crying son, Colton D. Hartley, and allegedly shook him and yelled, "Damn you Colton, please go to [expletive] sleep."
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Newton took the child away from him. Hartley continued playing Xbox until he left to go to work at a Sam's Club.
Hartley returned later that night and continued playing video games until 4 a.m. The baby woke up at about that time, and Hartley held him. Newton says she found her baby bleeding form the mouth and nose. He was taking the hospital and died at 7 a.m. on Friday morning. His death was consistent with being shaken.
Hartley confessed to shaking the baby on Thursday, and one other time in the prior week. He is now being charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child and aggravated child abuse.
shaking a baby doesn't put it to sleep
how do people even come up with this logic
-snip oh god I realized that seemed a bit of a dickpost. Wasn't intended to be, poor thing :smith:-
It sort of did this time, though.
..The long kind of sleep. Poor kid :(
really? was that needed?
I wish assholes like these were shaken to death.
Anyone want to take this idiot, latch his shirt onto one of these

and swing him back and forth?
Obviously wasn't ready for a child. Sounds like he wouldn't even be ready for a wife.

I like the part where your neck snaps. That part's fun.
Inb4 everyone says he should be killed instead.
He didn't know the baby would die, he doesn't deserve death guys.

How does my neck snap if it's using my shirt as a harness and it's swinging me back and fourth?
i agree but i'm sure he knew shaking a baby would lead to no good
I wouldn't. Though maybe because I'm stupid. Who knows.
I'd give him 10 years.
This again? Really? How many times are people going to do this and not realize it's bad for your baby?

Nobody deserves to die

He shouldn't? Very few people should. He'll have to live knowing that he killed his son, in favour of playing the Xbox. That's far worse I think, I don't see how I'd cope.
guys clearly the culprit here are violent video games
Nobody deserves to die
meh, I disagree. Sometimes some people are just too terrible that they deserve it.

And then that makes us just as terrible as them
How is there such a thing as "aggravated child abuse"? Does that reduce the sentence at all? Because a child being a child should not reduce punishment.
