• Leak Reveals New Border Vigilante Group on Arizona Border

A 2010 U.S. Department of Homeland Security memo warned that a new Minuteman-style border vigilante group had popped up in Arizona that posed “a possibility of violence between armed civilians and smugglers.” The confidential memo — dated April 28, 2010, and leaked last Thursday by LulzSec, a group that hacked the Arizona Department of Public Safety — warned that an “unknown group” calling itself “A Concerned Citizen” was seeking recruits to help shut down a 30-mile section of Interstate 8. The idea was to create a roadblock, allegedly for the purpose of stopping any smugglers who might be traveling along the route.
Federal agents were warned last year that a Minuteman group was planning to shut down a large section of freeway in central Arizona in an attempt to catch smugglers crossing through the desert, according to a secret law enforcement memo leaked last week. The April 28, 2010 memo said the U.S. Border Patrol had received information that the group, which went by the name “A Concerned Citizen,” was recruiting people to help it shut down part or all of a 30-mile stretch of Interstate 8 between Casa Grande and Gila Bend. The group reportedly wanted to carry out the operation to show support for Arizona’s strict new immigration law, known as SB1070, which had been signed by Gov. Jan Brewer five days prior. The document didn’t say where the Border Patrol got its information, but it was clear the agency was worried about the development. It said the “tone of this information is quite unlike” that of better-publicized operations by Minuteman groups that had patrolled the borderlands. “If this new operation happens,” the memo said, “there could be potential for human rights violations and a possibility of violence between armed civilians and smugglers or with law enforcement.” The memo was among more than 700 files leaked Thursday by hacker group LulzSec, which said it obtained them by breaking into the email accounts of several Arizona Department of Public Safety officers. Many of the files, like this one, were bulletins from other agencies, marked as “law enforcement sensitive” and meant to be kept secret from the public. In a statement after the hack, DPS said none of the documents appeared to be “related to ongoing investigations or other sensitive matters.” Still, many of the files revealed incidents or plots that were never made public previously. Another memo leaked by the hacker group, for instance, revealed that Border Patrol agents found a roadside bomb along a smuggling route in 2009. The bomb exploded while it was being investigated, but it’s unclear whether anyone was injured. In the memo about the freeway plot, a Border Patrol analyst said such activities had been stoked by recent events in Arizona. Specifically, the analyst mentioned the disbanding of the high-profile Minuteman Civil Defense Corps and the killing of rancher Robert Krentz, whose death, the analyst said, was “being touted as the work of a drug cartel.” “It is not surprising that another contingent of Minutemen types has come to life,” the analyst said. In addition to the freeway shutdown, which never was carried out, the memo also mentioned a phone call that a Border Patrol agent received March 27, 2010 from a man calling himself “Daniel Webster.” The man said the he and a group of “concerned citizens” had spotted several vehicles loaded with illegal immigrants on or near Interstate 8. Agents searched the area but were unable to find the vehicles. The memo speculated that the phone call may have been somehow connected to the group planning to shut down the freeway.
To be honest, I don't blame them. Arizona is constantly being ruined by crime from Mexico, and I think they have every right to protect their borders.

considering how dangerous the Mexican drug cartels are i don't think blocking their routes would be a good idea
considering how dangerous the Mexican drug cartels are i don't think blocking their drug routes would be a good idea
This.
These cartels are not the typical "gangbangers" most people picture them to be. They're really a sophisticated organization. I understanding defending your land and what you think is right, but this is going to end up bloody. They behead cops and kill them in broad day light, a small group of armed civilians is nothing to them.

Whats wrong with it, they just want a secure border. I think it is just fine, aslong as they don't hurt anyone on this side of the border accidentaly.
probably the only good thing lulzsec released
If they do shut down the interstate, that means one less illegal immigrant problem in the US.

American citizens have the right to defend their country when the government sits on it's ass about it. Also most groups document their activities and post them on YouTube so I find it sort of funny it takes the government forever to find out about these kind of groups in the first place. Most work with law enforcement as well and don't try to take matters in to their own hands and only go armed for self defense.
Or a gay black furry. I think he's the gay furry version of glaber.
I definitely see the problem with the situation. They're asking for a wide group of volunteers with no formal experice to set up checkpoints to stop cars along a road as important as the eight. Who knows what their policies will be, how they decide who is a citizen or not, and how are they not going to invade peoples privacy? Then, what happens if they do find someone with drugs? Without proper oversight its definitely not okay. If they submitted their group to assist or take direction and advisement from the federal Gov. That's fine. but a militia doing this alone can have terrible results. They still have to operate within the bounds of law. some of these people dont understand that, its something that can take weeks to beat into you at the police academy. I do think they have the right to take action though. Good on them . I'm not to worried about them being outgunned. The firepower some of these militias have at their disposal is incredible. not just shotguns and handguns like a lot of people think.
considering how dangerous the Mexican drug cartels are i don't think blocking their routes would be a good idea
And thus we kill two birds with one stone.
Contrary to belief... A lot of these groups work side by side with the BP/NG they usually scout the desert for illegal immigrants/drug runners. More manpower for the mission. Another thing, when you get them named as "Arizona/Gila River Milita" they usually use the name as a scare tactic too ward away cartels from going in certain areas in order to protect people.
Rednecks V. Druggies, this is something I have to watch for.
Let's just hope it doesn't end in a load of unneeded bloodshed, vigilantism isn't exactly easy to moderate.
Let's just hope it doesn't end in a load of unneeded bloodshed, vigilantism isn't exactly easy to moderate.
And drugs are?
And drugs are?
So what, you support the possibility of innocents getting hurt just because drugs are actually being smuggled in? Not sure I get where you're coming from.
A liberal gay mexican furry? Just basing that on the fact that almost all of his political threads have ridiculously biased blogs as sources
i've never seen him post a source that didn't have more legitimate sources in it (maybe once). how is this even relevant? he posts news threads, ok big deal talk about the news he posts or don't talk at all. on topic: i don't think it's smart to have a bunch of randoms with guns 1. blocking off highways looking for illegals, 2. trying to start shit with incredibly violent drug cartels
Fuck, I live near Interstate 8, I don't wanna die
What we really need to do is recall our military, or at least re-position them to secure our borders so that citizens don't feel they need to do it. It's sad when we have one of the largest and most powerful military in the world, yet our citizens feel as though they have to help take care of the problem because of interest groups making everyone twiddle their thumbs in the face of a blatant crime. Regardless of how nice the people being smuggled in may be (ignoring the drug cartels and violence they bring, which is just yet another reason to stop it) it is a crime and therefore needs to be acted upon. Hell, don't we have national guard for a reason............
Was I the only one that thought this thread said "Leak Reveals New Border"lands DLC from the main forums?
