Video Cards Available to Run Gmod Under 250watt PSU?
42 replies, posted
I need a good video card that can run Gmod under a 250watt PSU at 1440x900 res? I'm looking in the $50-$100 price range. If not, what is the best PSU and Graphics card for under $150?
What are the rest of your computer specs?
Games do not single handedly depend on one aspect of your computer...
Full specs?
If you don't want to replace your PSU, I'd get a 4670.

$70 USD w/ free shipping and $10 MIR
If you don't mind replacing your PSU, pick up this 500W Cooler Master and this Radeon 4850.
The PSU costs $40 before shipping, and the video card is $100 with free shipping.
It all depends on the specs of your computer, though, as a 250W PSU is quite weak.
It may turn out that your computer doesn't even have a PCI-E slot, in which case I'd go for this Radeon 3650.
You won't need a PSU upgrade with that card if you choose to get it.
1. I know for a fact is a PCI-E Slot
2. My Crappy Specs: (I know them offhand surprisingly)
CPU: Pentium Dual Core E2140
Graphics: Intel Media Accelerator 945G
HD: 320GB 7200RPM
OS: Windows Vista
Pentium D's are horrid (last I checked). You should save for a new computer instead.
I'd go for a 4350.
Can't, I just got hit by a car so no money income, so I have to use what little I have on food, and the last of the "My Cash" Fund
Then you shouldn't be buying nice things.
Build and sell computers till you get better. Advertise on Craigslist.

It's not a Pentium D, it's a Pentium Dual-Core, which is based on the excellent Core architecture.
OP, I'd go for a 4670 if I were you.
You have the right idea Mr. Tilgan.

Wait WHAT!?!?
I skipped a whole step of pentium?!
Pentium D where D = dual? amiright or what?
Pentium D refers to Intel's first dual-cores, which were essentially 2 Pentium 4 cores stacked on the same die.
They ran incredibly hot.
Pentium Dual-Cores are just low-end Core 2 Duos.
Oh now i understand
I'm not old enough to do anything, I just work at a laundromat for $8/hour from Midnight - 4A.M. + Bonuses that my awesome boss gives me. My parents refuse to give me any money, and my laptop, which I used to game, is broken and the warrenty is ass. It keeps giving me the same laptop saying we cannot do anything about your stolen OS or your video card. My Vista also got stolen. So I'm stuck hacking the Home computer, which lucky for me, has an extra PCI-E slot. And the 4650 is PCI-E 2.0, I don't have 2.0.
2.0 is backward compatible with PCI-e.
Really?
Anyway, I might just build a gaming computer by selling some stuff, and I don't think the family wants me touching the computer, as they think I destroy the conputer every time I do something to it.

Don't buy luxury you don't need then.
Yeah, save your money and be successful, don't spend money on something fancy when there is something you need.
Your parents don't give you food?

And by the way, why do hell did you even buy a system that only comes with some budget 250 watt PSU?
Even a budget GPU might be too much for it to handle.

My PC came with a 250W PSU and the 4670 was fine on it, little bit underpowered I think, but it still working now.

I think he means the key code got stoleded
How about trying to just live for now.
Meh, your right. When I say pay for food, I mean that my dad is usually at work as a federal officer against drug trafficking (and with the income he makes, I don't know why he stopped giving me allowance 7 years ago, when I was 9) and my mom works at some doctors office, as a phone operator, so my parents gave me $200 and said "Get well."
4550 or 4650
4670 could probably work on a decent 250W.

Assuming this is some sort of Dell prebuilt tomfoolery I would imagine it's not decent at all.

I wouldn't risk my hardware if it's possible to get a way better PSU for a small amount of money.
4670 is your best bet. Gaming with it at 1400x900 is possible with some games(not something like Crysis though).
