• Going to order some new parts

I just got paid for my work during the school holidays and I was considering buying some new parts for my rig. My budget is around 900 AUD, this also meaning I live in Australia. I will be getting these parts through some distributors I know, so the prices don't bother me too much, it's a friend getting the money for it. The parts I was thinking of getting: OCZ Vertex Series SATA II 2.5" SSD - $530 This is the 120GB SSD of the Vertex Series made by OCZ. It's godlike speeds are as follows: Read: Up to 250 MB/s Write: Up to 180MB/s Sustained Write: Up to 100MB/s These are the best speeds out of the Vertex Series. I have also looked at a couple of reviews and they think they are great speeds too. Logitech X-540 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System - $180
Intensify your gaming with a uniform soundfield that surrounds you. Get full, rich audio even from 2-channel sources for a 5.1 surround sound experience.
The satellites have two two inch drivers each and the subwoofer a 5.25" ported driver. Specs: Total RMS power: 70 watts RMS Satellites: 45 watts RMS (2 x 7.4W front, 15.4W centre, 2 x 7.4W rear) Subwoofer: 25 watts RMS Total peak power: 140 watts Frequency response: 40 Hz - 20 kHz So how do these look, has anyone had experiences with either of the two? Have any recommendations for a better part to order? I'm open to anything. P.S I'm also ordering a RCA extension cable for the back satellites and some drive bay converter things, which will add about $40 One other question, does anybody know if I would be able to hook up my current two speakers to that X-540?
I have that sound system, and to me it sounds great. That's not really a great opinion to go on since I haven't really owned or tried any others. My one issue with the system is that I couldn't figure out a good way to position the rear satellite speakers. I know you can mount them on walls, but I have none behind me that are close. Anyway, they sound great in games, especially with the bass turned up a bit. I think an SDD (particularly a $500 one) would be much lower on my list of potential upgrades than say, a new GPU or CPU. What are your current specs?

So I thought that the speed increase the SSD would offer could greatly help me. By the way, the SSD probably seems expensive to you, but in America, it only costs about $300. Also, what I'm doing with the rear satellites is buying a 10m RCA extension cord and putting that around the walls of the room to the back wall and just having them on the bookshelf which is behind me. I have to do this because people do walk behind me there sometimes, so I can't have wires going everywhere across there.
Dont bother with the SSD, it really is not worth the amount of money at the moment, unless you say RAID them. They use SATA too so will be constrained by the speed of the SATA connection. If you want super fast speeds on a SSD, wait till those PCI-E drive become cheaper, they have virtually no limit on how fast they can transfer data.

Plus, the SSD is nearly 5 times faster than my current hard drive. Thanks for the feedback though. I'm off to bed for now, will be back in about 8 hours.
You're not actually going to see the speed. I say get a couple of fast hard drives and put them in RAID 0.

I'd spend the money on a better graphics card rather than an SSD. You CPU is great as are you other components but your GPU isn't the best you could get. We have the exact same motherboard...good choice
The money would be better spent on a new graphics card.

I thought I was having some problems with it for a few months but it turned out to be faulty RAM. I was thinking of getting a new graphics card but I just don't need it at a res of 1280x1024.
