A five-year-old girl in Alabama was made to sign a school contract saying she would not kill herself or anybody else after she pointed a crayon at another pupil, it has been reported.
The girl's mother claims staff at E R Dickson Elementary School, in Mobile, Alabama, gave her daughter a questionnaire on suicidal thoughts following an incident in class.
Rebecca, who asked reporters not to use her last name, told WPMI Local 15 News that the school said her daughter drew an object which "resembled a gun".
She said: "According to them she pointed a crayon at another student and said, 'pew pew.'"
She said her daughter was asked by the school whether she was depressed and given a Mobile County Public School Safety Contract to sign, which stated she would not kill herself or anybody else.
Rebecca said she had been waiting in the school's lobby at the time and was not asked for her consent.
State law in Alabama means minors cannot sign a contract.
Rebecca said: "There should be a different way to handle this situation. If this is protocol it needs to be looked at again."
She said the school's request that her daughter see a psychiatrist was also unnecessary.
what the hell is this

What in the absolute fuck is america's school system coming to
Good thing too, they can charge her with breaking the terms of the contract if she kills somebody.
She should have signed it with the crayon.
What if she does kill herself? How would they enforce that breach of contract? By keeping her from going to school? Too late for that shit.
Seriously, I understand being worried about school shootings, but kids going "pew pew" isn't a threat. Look for the brooding lonely kids and help them out, don't give detention to little Jimmy because he was pretending to be a cowboy.
Remember kids, having an imagination is a psychological disorder that must have serious evaluation.
:downs:
They never think to look into the kid in the corner who doesn't colour things in, draws outside the dotted lines and lays lego on the ground
At least they didn't expel her for being a genocidal depressed lunatic who runs around babbling like a 5 year old
Cas like every other school that's had this problem generally over reacts way more than that
What are they going to do if she kills herself? Give her a detention?
Well I wanted to kill everyone at school but fuck me they got me with a contract
Guess I can't murder everyone and then take myself out with a semiautomatic in the library anymore
Her mother was on the radio the other day. She sounds enraged, and rightfully so.
If the contract law Wiki article I found is right, she would need to be a legally competent party (so, legal age).
This means, the contract is not valid and she can kill herself with the crayon! Suck that, school laws!
I remember drawing like massive battles between a race of dog people and cat people (dog people always because dogs own) where I regularly had things blowing up getting shot and cut in half, and I never got in trouble for it, not even a second glance, and this was while I was in Catholic School, jeez. I can't wait to see how soft this next generation is gonna be if we keep up with stuff like this.
Reminds me of a time a kid got suspended because he Ate his poptart to look like a gun.
Is the Mobile County Public School Safety Contract a standardised thing? Does that mean there is a standard form for school kids to sign - or anyone - to say that they won't kill themselves or anyone else?
How belittling and ridiculous is that. You offer them access to a psychologist if you're concerned, not ask them to confirm they won't be killing anyone.
Better watch out! That 5-year-old is ready to draw at any moment!
Well if she enters the school with a gun, be sure to remember to remind her of her contract, that will make her think twice.
Man it fucking sucks to be a child this day and age.

*in america.
I haven't seen anything like this outside of USA so far. Nothing in Germany, Britain, Canada, etc.
Did she sign it in crayon?
why would she sign a contract with a dangerous weapon
may as well shoot bullet holes on the fine line.
My friends and I used too draw guns all the time, and play with toy ones at school. Amazing how shit changes over the course of 15 years.
Mobile's schools are so poorly run, know so many people that left schools in Mobile cause of how they fucking suck. Not surprised they'd pull shit like that. They don't know how kids act, and apparently if a 5 year old points a crayon and says "pew-pew" it's grounds to say she'll be a homicidal maniac and she needs to sign a form saying she won't. All she did was point a crayon, to her, it could have been a wand, not a gun.
The state of american schools, if its not a fight between scientists, historians, and experts or partisan retards over the content of books, its the shit our teachers and administrators do that appears completely devoid of thought, all the while real reforms can't make any progress since the funding bills would be overloaded with riders and pork programs as well as being draped in partisan red tape.

Also theres the whole no longer safe to be there problem with a school shooting going off every few weeks
Are these people fucking mental?
How can you even think of something like this without your brain going "Hey hold on a minute, this sounds dumb."
What are they going to do if she kills herself? Give her a detention?
Point frantically at the contract in an attempt to absolve themselves of any responsibility, I assume.
Good thing that you can't legally be held to a contract unless you're a legal adult. School administration needs to go back to school because they clearly don't know much of anything.
its ironic a place that's meant to educate is being run by the most uneducated fucktards imiginable
lays lego on the ground
I never trust a kid who does this, you just know they're evil when they do that!
So I guess if she goes nuts and shoots up a school in ten years, the administrators can go "Hey, we're not liable, we have a contract that says she wouldn't kill anybody"? What?
This is one of those things that leaves you in awe at the fact that this is a decision made by reasonable, educated adults. How did they not know they would immediately become a laughingstock?
This is what makes me sad about aspiring to be a teacher.
I don't have the money, probably never will, to go to Europe, so I'll have to stick with this lot.
They never think to look into the kid in the corner who doesn't colour things in, draws outside the dotted lines and lays lego on the ground
Anyone who deliberately leaves LEGO on the floor is beyond rehabilitation. Pure evil right there. If Satan existed, that would be his mortal form.
